Fundraising & Conference

In thinking about when to hold our Winter fundraiser and Spring Conference:

• Together Boston music festival will be May 14-21st, 2017.
• College spring breaks are usually in mid March
• College exams are in early/mid May
• Many public schools have April 14 to the 21st off, so 14th to the 23rd is a vacation time for enough people.

Which leaves March 26-27, April 8-9 and April 29-30.

Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Day is March 27th. Palm Sunday is April 9th. I don't see any other holidays those weekends

Suggest March 26, April 8, 29th or 30th. We could do another survey to pick the final date.

[9:28pm] srevilak: town counsel says he'll need time to look at it, but suspects it might not be viable in ARlington
[9:28pm] srevilak: (aka it would exceed the scope of what town meeting can do)
[9:28pm] srevilak: So, I need to do research

[9:29pm] srevilak: One of the explicit powers of a town meeting is to enact town bylaws

[9:29pm] srevilak: So, saying proposed article isn't viable, is more or less equivalent to saying
[9:29pm] srevilak: the town does not have the authority to regulate surveillance equipment
[9:30pm] srevilak: Our town counsel said he'd have a chat with Cambridge city solicitor
[9:30pm] srevilak: I'm planning to write to camb. city solicitor too
[9:31pm] srevilak: I wrote to the other 11 TMM's in my precinct, about the prevalance of surveillance cameras

[9:32pm] srevilak: There are several blocks of public housing, and the cameras are concentrated within one block

[9:33pm] jokeefe: but they weren’t pointing at the public housing
[9:33pm] srevilak: The entire block across the street from my house is public housing

[9:35pm] srevilak: One of my neighbors collected APD crime statistics for the streets where
[9:35pm] srevilak: cameras are placed.  Not a terribly profic area for crime

[9:38pm] srevilak: For me, next step is finding out who owns cameras, and asking for polices regarding access, purpose, data retention, and sharing

[9:40pm] jokeefe: MAAPL has a bunch of anti-foreclosure clinics coming up - Plymouth, Worcester, Athol, New Bedford, Springfield, Somerville so far
