[9:18pm] jokeefe: Agenda: https://masspirates.org/wiki/November_18th,_2020_IRC_Meeting
[9:18pm] jokeefe: ids
[9:18pm] jokeefe: James O’Keefe, Somerville
[9:18pm] jokeefe: agenda look ok?
[9:21pm] malt: sure, no complaints here
[9:21pm] malt: sam capradae, worcester
[9:21pm] jokeefe: Review - Conference
[9:21pm] malt: i think the conference went well. we kinda got bogged down sunday but we powered through it
[9:24pm] malt: did we get many views on the livestream?
[9:24pm] jokeefe: Some
[9:24pm] malt: well that's neat
[9:25pm] malt: i loved the video from the italian party
[9:25pm] malt: real surprising how similar the anti-freedom playbook is
[9:25pm] srevilak joined the chat room.
[9:26pm] malt: aaaaaaytyyyyyy
[9:26pm] • srevilak is in town meeting
[9:26pm] malt: owp
[9:26pm] malt: (you did a real good talk buddy)
[9:26pm] srevilak: (have to head back now)
[9:26pm] malt: (sorry i missed part of it cuz my cat puked everywhere
[9:27pm] srevilak: wet food puke or dry food puke?
[9:27pm] malt: that time it was dry food
[9:27pm] malt: but also a post-vet stress puke
[9:27pm] malt: so it went EVERYWHERE
[9:28pm] jokeefe: yeah, on the similarity of the anti-freedom advocates
[9:28pm] jokeefe: welcome srevilak
[9:29pm] jokeefe: will send email to registrants with the links to the recordings
[9:31pm] jokeefe: srevilak, we are reviewing the conference
[9:32pm] malt: i give it a B+
[9:32pm] jokeefe: thoughts?
[9:32pm] malt: i'm impressed that it didn't feel like it dragged on
[9:32pm] malt: james you did a good job keeping us on target
[9:33pm] jokeefe: thanks
[9:33pm] malt: i'm thinking about recording a sort video about my experiences as a remote teacher to share with the worc school systemn
[9:33pm] jokeefe: sounds good
[9:34pm] jokeefe: would you introduce me to the Worcester GIS folks ?
[9:35pm] malt: yeah lemme bug my wife about it
[9:35pm] jokeefe: thanks
[9:36pm] jokeefe: Decisions/Endorsements
[9:36pm] jokeefe: Platform Topic Order
[9:37pm] jokeefe: I put the list up at https://masspirates.org/wiki/November_18th,_2020_IRC_Meeting#Platform_Topic_Order
[9:37pm] jokeefe: What topics should we add to it?
[9:38pm] malt: it seems fairly complete so far. is the "anti compulsory membership" an anti-union thing?
[9:38pm] malt: i don't remember the text addressing it
[9:38pm] malt: but that's my first impression upon reading the title
[9:39pm] jokeefe: “The Pirate Party supports the abolishment of compulsory membership in chambers and associations, such as the Chamber of Commerce (IHK), the Agricultural Chamber and the Chamber of Trade. Associations for lawyers, notaries and physicians are exempt from this demand."
[9:40pm] jokeefe: Not sure we need to have it.
[9:40pm] malt: yeah i'm not clear on why this is bad
[9:41pm] jokeefe: well that goes to the end of the list
[9:43pm] malt: some of these could probably become subsections of others
[9:43pm] malt: patents could go under law
[9:45pm] jokeefe: it is a core pirate issue
[9:46pm] malt: "law" and "laws for freedom of information", though?
[9:46pm] malt: sorry to nitpick
[9:46pm] malt: i can't really commit any time to this this week
[9:46pm] jokeefe: change “laws for freedom of information” to “freedom of information”
[9:47pm] malt: fair
[9:48pm] jokeefe: Well, energy is next one and finishing education. That is enough for this week or two.
[9:48pm] jokeefe: would be good to do “Right to secure livelihood and social participation”, after. what do you think?
[9:49pm] malt: with that new study on the public health effects of racism, i think it's a good choice
[9:49pm] jokeefe: sounds good
[9:50pm] jokeefe: Day Against DRM is Dec. 4th.
[9:50pm] jokeefe: I think Free Software Foundation is doing video presentations
[9:51pm] malt: we can signal boost that
[9:51pm] jokeefe: “This year's annual day in protest of Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) will be on December 4th, 2020, and will focus on streaming services' unjust use of DRM. We need your help to spread that message far and wide to both anti-DRM activists and those simply concerned with how in a world with continued technological advancement, our digital freedoms are increasingly under threat.”
[9:51pm] malt: we could solicit complaints about issues using proprietary systems for distance education
[9:52pm] jokeefe: “If you're planning your own digital action this year, please let others know by listing it on the the LibrePlanet wiki page for IDAD 2020. Keep an eye out on that space for more opportunities to help the campaign."
[9:52pm] malt: coursera DMCA'd complaints about them off twitter
[9:52pm] malt: reach out to the teachers union about putting some pressure on the state house
[9:54pm] jokeefe: that is a good idea. would be good to have a brief bill to suggest
[9:55pm] malt: i imagine they've got sample legislation
[9:55pm] malt: I'll prep a message and fwd it to you
[9:55pm] malt: mutual aid groups are another good source to ask for experiences.
[9:55pm] jokeefe: Maybe. FSF might
[9:55pm] jokeefe: thanks
[9:56pm] malt: do we have an anonymous submission form?
[9:56pm] jokeefe: that is all I have. shall we adjourn?
[9:56pm] malt: just that i think, for this question, we should have a way for people to complain secretly
[9:56pm] malt: it might help administrators leak some of the problems on their ends
[9:58pm] jokeefe: that would be good. there are open source tools for that
[10:00pm] malt: ok, i'll see what i can find
[10:00pm] jokeefe: thanks
[10:00pm] jokeefe: shall we call it a night?
[10:04pm] malt left the chat room. (Ping timeout: 258 seconds)
[10:04pm] malt joined the chat room.
[10:04pm] jokeefe: we are adjourned
[10:05pm] malt: pffft,
[10:05pm] malt: i got distracted looking at whistleblower forms
[10:05pm] malt: lol night bud, i;ll get you that email soon
[10:05pm] malt left the chat room. (Client Quit)
