[9:06pm] jokeefe: Decisions/Endorsements
[9:06pm] malt: not on my end
[9:06pm] jokeefe: Monday No Spy Phone Event - suggest endorsing
[9:07pm] jokeefe: More at https://actionnetwork.org/events/protest-apples-spy-phone-boston/
[9:07pm] malt: oh hard agreed
[9:07pm] jokeefe: Joe?
[9:08pm] jokeefe: any objections?
[9:08pm] Joe: I agree too.
[9:08pm] Joe: Baby pirate duty
[9:08pm] jokeefe: lots of fun
[9:09pm] jokeefe: ok, will post tomorrow and notify fight for the future
[9:09pm] malt: sorry pal
[9:09pm] jokeefe: Platform
[9:09pm] jokeefe: Started work on two new planks:
[9:09pm] jokeefe: https://etherpad.pp-international.net/p/MAPPImmigrationPlank
[9:09pm] jokeefe: https://etherpad.pp-international.net/p/MAPPDigitalFreedomForAll
[9:10pm] jokeefe: Malt and I edited https://etherpad.pp-international.net/p/MAPPDigitalFreedomForAll
[9:12pm] Joe: I am reading through this now.
[9:15pm] malt: I have started the immigration plank
[9:15pm] jokeefe: thanks malt
[9:15pm] malt: do we have an actual policy on this?
[9:16pm] malt: i am very much anti-borders, but i don't know how widely shared that is
[9:17pm] jokeefe: write it and we can edit to a suitable result
[9:24pm] Joe: I updated the end of digital freedom. Please see if you approve.
[9:27pm] jokeefe: I think it is ok.
[9:27pm] jokeefe: The only thing I think we don’t address is the social media oligopoly
[9:28pm] malt: ooohhh good point
[9:28pm] malt: what can we even say about it, though?
[9:29pm] jokeefe: The last paragraph of Digital society worldwide talks about censorship, but the term is muddied
[9:35pm] jokeefe: too many think freedom of speech = freedom to be heard
[9:35pm] Joe: Hmmm
[9:37pm] Joe: I can't find the right words
[9:38pm] jokeefe: Neither can I.
[9:39pm] jokeefe: Still thinking
[9:42pm] jokeefe: part of the problem is that so much of our communication is mediated through a small number of companies who value maximizing our attention
[9:45pm] malt: here's my shit: if we abolished facebook, people would just make facebook 2
[9:45pm] malt: it wouldn't even take a day
[9:45pm] malt: unless we bring back RSS, people don't want to have to surf between their favorite sites
[9:45pm] jokeefe: I agree
[9:45pm] Joe: They probably already have a shell ready to go
[9:45pm] malt: they want their shit spoon fed in an infinitely scrolling trough
[9:46pm] malt: oh there is, there's even open software clones
[9:46pm] jokeefe: Doctorow talks about making all of the systems interoperable and requiring that we can move our data/social graph to whatever platform we want
[9:48pm] jokeefe: I can deal with infinite scroll based on time. It is when the social networks choose what to show me and select for maximum engagement that things go off the rails
[9:48pm] jokeefe: Perhaps we should talk about it at our next Pirate news?
[9:49pm] Joe: Sounds good. Sorry I missed the last one.
[9:50pm] jokeefe: We all need breaks
[9:50pm] jokeefe: But we missed you both
[9:50pm] jokeefe: 7:30pm Sunday, then?
[9:51pm] malt: yes!
[9:51pm] malt: i will be around
[9:51pm] Joe: I should be able to participate
[9:52pm] jokeefe: excellent
[9:54pm] jokeefe: Joe, what do you want to discuss about the Massachusetts Budget?
[9:57pm] Joe: I would like to see if we can start campaigning and what cost are associated with it.
[9:57pm] jokeefe: sounds good.
[9:58pm] jokeefe: our last budget was https://masspirates.org/wiki/2015_Budget
[9:59pm] jokeefe: we should come up with one for 2022.
[9:59pm] jokeefe: will carry that over to next week and we can start on that too
[10:00pm] jokeefe: shall we adjourn?
[10:00pm] malt: aye
[10:00pm] Joe: Aye
[10:00pm] Joe: That is a great start for me though, thank you.
[10:00pm] jokeefe: aye
[10:00pm] jokeefe: have a great night. will post the transcript
