Statement from the French Pirate Party on the attacks in Paris on Friday the 13th: Si vis pacem, para pacem. Based on the English translation with slight grammar changes for American English. Image found via the Pirate Party Dortmund. If you want peace, prepare for peace November the 13th, cowardice and bigotry have bloodied the streets of Paris and our indignation is huge. Our thoughts are with the victims and their relatives. These lives, cut, broken, nothing will bring them back to us. ...

Our second 2016 campaign meeting is this Sunday.  We will choose our goals and figure out how to make them a reality.  How many candidates we will run is up to you. If you want to ensure that Pirates shake up our one party state, join us. We will meet at Pizzeria Regina, 353 Cambridge St., Allston (Boston), just off the Pike. It starts at 3pm and ends at 5pm.  Tell us you are coming so we know how big to make the reservation. If you cannot make Sunday's meeting, our next meeting will be...

It is no surprise that we believe in government transparency and accountability.  With the large number of police shootings of unarmed citizens as well as the resulting huge wrongful death payouts, police body cameras are an additional tool to ensure that police are accountable for their actions.  Thus we are proud to have endorsed two Massachusetts police body camera bills at our November 9th IRC meeting. We voted 6-0 to support H.2170 - An Act promoting the use of body-worn cameras by law e...

Our discussion about the future of the Internet was well attended and lively.  How to ensure privacy and decentralization were prominent topics. The next Somerville cryptoparty will be Wednesday, November 25th. It will be from 6-9pm at Parts and Crafts, 577 Somerville Ave, Somerville, MA 02143. Since it is the day before Thanksgiving, we will likely keep it low key.  It will have key signing and there will be people who are happy to answer your computer and networking security questions. H...

Besides our usual administrative status reports, at Monday's IRC meeting we will be discussing and voting on whether to endorse H.2169 – An Act assuring municipal control of military equipment procurement by local law enforcement.  It shouldn't be controversial when it comes to Pirate principals. We have a number of bills to consider, so we will be going over a couple every week until we are done.  If you have any bills you think we should choose to endorse or oppose, please add them as a com...

Besides our usual administrative status reports, at tonight's IRC meeting we will be discussing and voting on whether to endorse three legislative proposals: two for police body cameras and one for the digital right to repair. You can find the text of the bills at: H.2170 – An Act promoting the use of body-worn cameras by law enforcement – Here is Alex Marthew’s take; Boston Police Body Camera Use & Procedure ordinance; H.3383 – An Act relative to the digital right to repair. I filed a couple of FOIA requests this week: one to the CIA, one to the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), and to Customs and Border Protection (CBP). CIA. A few weeks ago, a teenager social engineered his way into CIA director John Brennan's personal email account. A curated collection of Director Brennan's messages have since appeared on Wikileaks. This led me to make the following request to the CIA: Under the Freedom of Information Act, 5 U.S.C. subsection 552, I am reques...

Following on New Zealand's release of the TPP text, the US Trade Representative released the text in an even more difficult to review way.  Thankfully, people have put the TPP text up as a zip of pdfs or html files.  The Washington Post made the main text searchable, but not all the bilateral annexes. Here is what we know: It extends the term of copyright by five years (lifetime plus 75 years); Internet service providers must give your name if copyright holders request it; ISPs must r...
