The Swedish Pirate Party is ten years old this year and they are asking pirates world-wide to send a congratulatory video message. Since Aaron James' State Representative campaign will go door-to-door this Saturday, we thought it would be a good opportunity to record it. We will meet at 5pm at the Dunkin Donuts at 154 Highland Ave, Somerville.  It will be quick and then those who want to, and we hope you will want to, will go door-to-door for Aaron.  Looking forward to see you then. ...

On Sunday, August 7th, we will hold our annual Pirate Picnic on Georges Island in Boston harbor.  It is our Summer social. It is a potluck and there are grills where we will be. Everyone is welcome to attend. The island is a great place to explore and fun for kids. We will l...

Today, 6-8pm, we will be making art, posters and flags for our Boston Pride Parade marchers. It will be at 25 Moore St., Somerville and we hope you can make it.

As the Pirate Quartermaster, one of my rituals is making a weekly trip to Davis Square to check our PO Box. Occassionally we receive things that are amusing enough to share. For example, here's a marketing letter from a company that sells greeting cards: I don't know whether to laugh or cry at mistargetings like these. Yes, there's a "Party" in "Mass Pirate Party", but that doesn't mean we're a business that sells things for birthay parties, graduation parties, and halloween parties. M...

Friday, 1/1/2016, will be the 10th anniversary of the founding of the first Pirate Party, the Swedish Pirate Party.  We will celebrate it with a potluck from noon to 3pm at 25 Moore St., Somerville, an easy walk from the Davis Sq. MBTA stop. Since it is a holiday, you can park anywhere on the street. See you then!

We're there every year because it's a great time and a good opportunity to meet activists (aka future pirates!) We will be tabling at the 26th Freedom Rally on September 26th and 27th. It will be on Boston Common and both days are currently scheduled from noon to 8pm. This is our sixth year at Freedom Rally and fifth year tabling at it. We hope you will help us make it a success. What is the Freedom Rally? An opportunity for a...

We have had some interesting discussions on IRC about Boston's bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics.   Some of us point to the lack of transparency of the private bid, the fact that most recent Olympics have been wildly over budget usually at government expense and the resulting increase in police power and loss of freedom of speech.   Others think there may be a silver lining to it if it yields needed infrastructure spending (hello MBTA) and it shouldn't be dismissed out of hand. What...

We set Saturday, April 25th as the date for PirateCon 2015.  It will be at the Community Church of Boston at 565 Boylston Street #2, Boston, MA 02116. It will be all day and we plan to end at 6pm and go out for dinner afterwards. Cost is $10 and we will hold elections for the Pirate Council. Based on the feedback we received, our current line up of talks/panels (in no particular order) is: Using the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Rethinking the City Net neutrality Income inequ...

Unlikely. Facebook isn't going anywhere, because most everyone you know is on it. What makes all the hipsters want to flee it, is exactly why you need to stay on it: Visibility. For now, at least. But because many people are sick of all the ads and object to being told stage names are not allowed on Facebook, nor any other type of pseudonym (drag queens simply make easy targets), many artists, performers, and activists are staking their claim in a new territory, a new social network that wel...
