Congress will soon vote on granting the President Fast track Trade Authority (FTA).<\/p>\n
If FTAA passes, the Congress will only be allowed to vote up or down on secret trade deals such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the\u00a0Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).<\/p>\n
As the Wikileaks release<\/a>\u00a0we reported over a month ago<\/a> noted, secret\u00a0trade agreements such as the TPP and TTIP will implement the most draconian anti-sharing laws we have seen. \u00a0 It would criminalize of copyright infringement and include:<\/p>\n TPP would allow corporations to patent plants and animals and ban you from selling a product you bought abroad if they object.<\/p>\n Both trade agreements would grant rights to corporations to challenge our laws if they at all hinder their profits. The Senate Democratic leadership has added a sweetener for Democrats who are on the fence about passing the FTAA: extending\u00a0unemployment insurance. \u00a0Our economy still hasn’t fully recovered from the 2008 financial crisis that Wall St. dumped on us, but that is no reason to sacrifice our democracy!<\/del><\/p>\nbut with the possible short-term sweetener,<\/del> we cannot trust that they will stand up for our democracy.<\/p>\n\n
