We have endorsed this day of action and urge you to support it as well.<\/p>\n<p>So called Digital Rights Management or DRM technologies have crept out of music (where they are being abandoned) into movies and e-books. They are even in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eff.org\/deeplinks\/2013\/11\/drm-cars-will-drive-consumers-crazy\">cars<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/articles\/20140227\/06521826371\/keurig-will-use-drm-new-coffee-maker-to-lock-out-refill-market.shtml\">coffee makers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If we don&#8217;t stand up, DRM will be in the next version of HTML, potentially lock down the Internet. As writer Cory Doctorow noted with DRM in e-books:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Anytime someone puts a lock on something you own, against your wishes, and doesn&#8217;t give you the key, they&#8217;re not doing it for your benefit.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Free Software Foundation has <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.defectivebydesign.org\/dayagainstdrm\/#before_actions\">suggestions for what you can do<\/a> on and leading up to the 6th.<\/p>\n<p>Locally, the LibrePlanet Boston Desktop GNU\/Linux Users Group is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meetup.com\/desktop-linux-users-group\/events\/180481162\/\" target=\"_blank\">holding a protest outside the Best Buy<\/a> at 401 Park Dr. in Boston.
