Six months ago very few thought that Section 215 could expire tonight, but through your effort we are very close to ending it.<\/p>\n<p>Now is the time to remind Senators Warren and Markey to let these portions of the Patriot Act expire.\u00a0 Call them before 4pm at:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Senator <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.warren.senate.gov\/\">Elizabeth Warren<\/a> \u2013 <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/senatorelizabethwarren\">Facebook<\/a> \/ <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.twitter.com\/senwarren\">@SenWarren<\/a> \/ (202) 224-4543 \/ (617) 565-3170 &amp; (413) 788-2690<\/li>\n<li>Senator <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.markey.senate.gov\/\">Ed Markey<\/a> \u2013 <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EdJMarkey\">Facebook<\/a> \/ <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.twitter.com\/elizabethforma\/MarkeyMemo\">@MarkeyMemo<\/a> \/ (202) 224-2742 \/ (617) 565-8519<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Senators Warren and Markey both voted against a straight renewal.\u00a0 However, they voted for the <a href=\"https:\/\/masspirates.org\/blog\/2015\/05\/13\/house-votes-to-enshrine-mass-surveillance-into-law\/\">House approved USA Freedom Act<\/a>, which <a class=\"extern\" href=\"https:\/\/www.emptywheel.net\/2015\/05\/06\/the-goodies-usa-f-redux-gives-the-intelligence-community\/\">would<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>expand what meta data may be collected from phone calls to other communications technologies;<\/li>\n<li>ensure that all data is shared with the NSA, CIA and FBI.\u00a0 Based on what we know already, the data wouldn\u2019t stop there.\u00a0 While the CIA and NSA would need to report the number of back door searches they carry out, the FBI would be exempt.
