{"id":3685,"date":"2015-06-10T09:00:21","date_gmt":"2015-06-10T13:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/masspirates.org\/blog\/?p=3685"},"modified":"2015-06-10T08:56:32","modified_gmt":"2015-06-10T12:56:32","slug":"stop-fasttrack-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/masspirates.org\/blog\/2015\/06\/10\/stop-fasttrack-this-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Stop FastTrack This Week!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Already oppose Fast Track, TPP &amp; TTIP? <a href=\"#calltoday\">Help stop them!<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The House is likely to vote on Fast Track Trade Authority (FTTA) this week, possibly tomorrow.\u00a0 We can stop this bill, but every vote counts!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wikileaks.org\/tisa\/\">Wikileaks leaked seventeen documents<\/a> for the Trade in Services Agreement (TISA).\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/arstechnica.co.uk\/tech-policy\/2015\/06\/wikileaks-releases-secret-tisa-docs-the-more-evil-sibling-of-ttip-and-tpp\/\">It aims to deregulate service industries for the benefit of corporations.<\/a>\u00a0 One provision would prevent governments from using Free Software:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;No Party may require the transfer of, or access to, source code of software owned by a person of another Party, as a condition of providing services related to such software in its territory.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If passed, agreements like TISA, TPP &amp; TTIP would enshrine some of the worst proposals corporations and the entertainment industry have put forward. These treaties would criminalize copyright infringement and include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stronger DRM and \u201ctechnological protection measure\u201d regimes;<\/li>\n<li>Make ISPs liable for copyright infringement on their networks;<\/li>\n<li>Implement a \u201ctake it down first, argue later\u201d DMCA-like process for notifying copyright infringements;<\/li>\n<li>allow corporations to patent plants and animals;<\/li>\n<li>potentially ban you from selling a product you bought abroad.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These trade agreements would put in place or expand Investor State Dispute Settlements (ISDS) that allow corporations to challenge our laws if they at all hinder their present or <a class=\"extern\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/articles\/20131213\/09200625558\/how-corporate-sovereignty-lets-companies-ignore-national-laws-with-creative-lawyering.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">potential profits<\/a>. It has already\u00a0happened in <a class=\"extern\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/articles\/20150216\/17390930032\/john-oliver-highlights-ridiculousness-corporate-sovereignty-provisions.shtml\">Australia<\/a>,\u00a0<a class=\"extern\" href=\"http:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/articles\/20130913\/11204224509\/eli-lilly-officially-sues-canada-because-canada-rejected-patent-that-unfairly-diminishes-eli-lillys-profits.shtml\">Canada<\/a>, <a class=\"extern\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/articles\/20131028\/10170325035\/how-much-does-gold-plated-corporate-sovereignty-cost-about-2-developing-countrys-gdp.shtml\">Costa Rica<\/a>, <a class=\"extern\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/articles\/20131213\/09200625558\/how-corporate-sovereignty-lets-companies-ignore-national-laws-with-creative-lawyering.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">Ecuador<\/a> and\u00a0<a class=\"extern\" href=\"http:\/\/www.citizen.org\/RDC-vs-Guatemala\">Guatemala<\/a>.
