passes Senate cloture vote, calls still needed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier today, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/?congress=114&amp;session=1&amp;vote=00281\">Senate&#8217;s cloture vote on CISA<\/a>, the\u00a0Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act, passed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/?congress=114&amp;session=1&amp;vote=00281\">83 to 14<\/a>. \u00a0It now advances to an up or down vote soon and reconciliation with the House version. \u00a0Thankfully, the effort to\u00a0<span>expand the CFAA to\u00a0allow the government to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/arstechnica.com\/security\/2015\/10\/the-rise-of-the-zero-day-market\/\">prosecute security researchers for finding security vulnerabilities in computers<\/a>\u00a0did not pass.<\/p>\n<p><span>Massachusetts Senators Warren and\u00a0<span>Markey voted against it. \u00a0In the rest of New England, only Senators Leahy and Sanders from Vermont voted against it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This fight is not over, but if we are to succeed the Senate needs to hear from us. \u00a0Tell your friends to visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.decidethefuture.org\/\">Decide the Future and demand that\u00a0their senator vote against CISA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tell your friends that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CISA is a surveillance bill that would immunize corporations from liability if they share your personal data with the government.\u00a0\u00a0Specifically it allows companies to automatically and simultaneously transfer your data to the DHS, NSA, FBI,\u00a0and local police with all of our\u00a0personally-indentifying information.<\/li>\n<li>We\u00a0would not be able to sue them to stop our\u00a0data from being shared and you won&#8217;t even be able to use the Freedom of Information Act to find out what they shared and with whom. \u00a0Putting that data in once place will be a great target for malicious hackers and will be an OPM breach in the making.<\/li>\n<li>Twitter, Apple, Google and many other tech companies have come out against CISA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please reach out to your friends and urge them to visit\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.decidethefuture.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" dir=\"ltr\" data-expanded-url=\"http:\/\/www.decidethefuture.org\/\" class=\"twitter-timeline-link\" target=\"_blank\"
