The Pirate Party is an international movement. \u00a0Yesterday, the Berlin Pirate Party upset the German political establishment by being the first Pirate Party to enter a state legislature. \u00a0So with their 8.9% vote, since Germany uses a form of proportional representation, 15 pirates will soon have new jobs and we have reason to wish them a hearty Arrrrr!<\/p>\n

Talk Like a Pirate Day is Today!<\/h3>\n

Monday, Sept. 19th<\/strong>\u00a0is International Talk Like a Pirate Day and we plan to celebrate it by telling people about the Pirate Party. We are leaving it up to our mateys as to how they want to do that. Some, such the pirates in\u00a0Somerville<\/a>, Lowell or Newburyport, will be heading out to the street with their pirate kit to talk like and talk about Pirates. Others may choose to print out and hand our\u00a0brochure<\/a>\u00a0to their friends. If you are going to put your name on the line that you’ll be talking like and about Pirates, just do it!<\/p>\n

Help Distribute Free Intellectual Pooperty Mini-books<\/h3>\n

\"Nina<\/a><\/p>\n

We had a great time handing out over 150 of\u00a0Nina Paley<\/a>‘s free\u00a0Intellectual Pooperty mini-books<\/a>\u00a0at Freedom Rally last Saturday. \u00a0We still have over 500 mini-books to distribute and we can certainly use your help to get them out. We are concentrating on getting them into book and comic book stores and have setup a\u00a0spreadsheet<\/a>\u00a0of the locations we are contacting. If you would like to be our distributor for your city please\u00a0email<\/a>\u00a0or call\/txt us at (617) 863-6277 (MAPP).<\/p>\n

Candidates Wanted<\/h3>\n

2012 will be a time of elections from town select board up to President. \u00a0We want you to run!<\/p>\n

Running for President is overly ambitious for us so we are concentrating on local and state elections. \u00a0Local offices include select board, school committee and, where your town charter specifies, town meeting member. \u00a0State offices are state representative and senator.<\/p>\n

To help prospective candidates and interested supporters, we will run a series of campaign classes starting in October. They will cover the basics of running a campaign for state and local office and can be applied to a non-electoral campaign as well. Even non-Pirates are invited.\u00a0 We have posted our\u00a0draft talk<\/a>\u00a0(pdf) and welcome your comments.<\/p>\n
