He spent the fortune he received from the sale of Reddit on his legal defense. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Living with depression and facing 50 years in prison and $1 million in fines, he took his own life. He died far too young with so much left to accomplish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aaronswartzday.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">On November 12-13 (Saturday &amp; Sunday), the Internet Archive will host an Aaron Swartz Day and International Hackathon at their office in San Francisco<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aaronswartzday.org\/#speakers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Speakers include Cory Doctorow, Chelsea Manning and Molly de Blanc<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attending is free, but <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/aaron-swartz-day-and-international-hackathon-tickets-453532256187\" target=\"_blank\">you must register<\/a>. If you cannot attend in person, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aaronswartzday.org\/asd-2022-livestream\/\" target=\"_blank\">you can watch the livestream over the two days<\/a>, and registration does not seem to be required. The talks and the hackathon run from 11am to 6pm both days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aaronswartzday.org\/#hackathon\" target=\"_blank\">You can participate in the hackathon<\/a>.
