{"id":784,"date":"2012-02-10T14:22:31","date_gmt":"2012-02-10T19:22:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.masspirates.org\/blog\/?p=784"},"modified":"2012-02-10T14:22:31","modified_gmt":"2012-02-10T19:22:31","slug":"help-stop-the-acta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/masspirates.org\/blog\/2012\/02\/10\/help-stop-the-acta\/","title":{"rendered":"Help Stop the ACTA!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stopp-acta.info\/english\/home\/home.html\" target=\"new\">Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA)<\/a>\u00a0is a treaty that the US government worked on in secret with other countries to bring the US&#8217; draconian copyright laws to other countries. \u00a0It will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>lock us into obsolete copyright and patent laws;<\/li>\n<li>criminalize harmless remixes by ordinary users if they achieve \u2018a commercial scale\u2019 (art 2.14.1) which many amateur videos do on sites like Youtube;<\/li>\n<li>criminalize legitimate websites by making them responsible for user behavior (\u2018aiding and abetting\u2019 art 2.14.4).<\/li>\n<li>permanently bypass the democratic process by empowering the \u2018ACTA Committee\u2019 to \u2018propose amendments to [ACTA]\u2018 without your approval.
