{"id":80,"date":"2010-09-28T06:48:17","date_gmt":"2010-09-28T10:48:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.masspirates.org\/?p=80"},"modified":"2010-12-06T10:29:53","modified_gmt":"2010-12-06T15:29:53","slug":"tell-your-senator-to-say-no-to-coica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/masspirates.org\/blog\/2010\/09\/28\/tell-your-senator-to-say-no-to-coica\/","title":{"rendered":"Tell your Senators to say no to COICA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Combating Online Infringements and Counterfeits Act (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.govtrack.us\/congress\/bill.xpd?bill=s111-3804\" target=\"_blank\">COICA<\/a>) is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eff.org\/coica\">rapidly making its way through the Senate<\/a>.\u00a0 COICA would allow the Department of Justice (DOJ) to force ISPs to block web sites that the DOJ thinks infringe on copyrighted material.\u00a0 As the EFF states:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The bill creates two blacklists of censored domains. The first is  longer, and includes any sites where the DOJ decides that infringement  is &#8220;central&#8221; to the purpose of the site.  The bill gives ISPs and  registrars strong legal incentives to censor the domains on that list.
