Reminders
A reminder that we have a General Meeting on Sun., June 16th, 2-4pm. It will be at REDACTED. If you are Facebook and plan to attend, please join the event.
Free Cameron D'Ambrosio
Cameron D'Ambrosio is a Methuen 18 year-old high school student who made a rap song that the police didn't like and was charged with inciting terrorism. They picked him up not that long after the Boston Bombing, but found not weapons or bomb making materials. His crime seems to be rapping questionable lyrics without a record deal. He is being held without bail. There is a hearing for him on Monday, June 3rd.
We should call for all charges to be dropped and endorse his freedom say stupid things. Here is the Facebook event.
Election of new 1st Officer
Lauren had to step down as 1st Officer. Lucia has offered to be our 1st Officer until all officers get elected by our membership in a mail ballot in July.
Cryptocurrency Conference
Conferences tend to take a lot of our time. We need to be finding and preparing candidates for 2014. Having a cryptocurrency conference in Sept. will likely be a distraction from our election plans in 2014 and getting our platform finalized. Jokeefe suggests cancelling it.

[9:39pm] davidd: its nice to gather members from people that already seem to be interested enough in politics to go to a rally [9:39pm] davidd: get a nice active crowd [9:39pm] srevilak: good point [9:40pm] davidd: could you give us a lowball, hiball and realistic estimate of how many will come to the general meeting?\ [9:41pm] jokeefe: 5-10 [9:42pm] davidd: so how do you guys do membership now? [9:42pm] davidd: do people need to fill in a form [9:42pm] davidd: online or on paper? [9:43pm] jokeefe: http://www.masspirates.org/blog/join-us/ [9:43pm] davidd: i betcha some of those anons would have gladly become members if you had presented them a paper membership form and asked them for some money [9:44pm] jokeefe: possibly. we usually have voter registration forms [9:44pm] jokeefe: not sure if any of us will be at the anti-fusion center rally, unfortunately [9:45pm] jokeefe: Actually, I think at least one will. I will contact him. [9:45pm] davidd: do you have flyers targeted at inviting people to become member? [9:53pm] jokeefe: One of our members who has since moved to the South West, sadly. [9:54pm] davidd: if you need other flyers to be made, ppnl has great experiences with a czech pirate [9:54pm] davidd: cant remember his name, could look it up for you if you need me to [9:55pm] jokeefe: thanks, but we have some folks who have stepped into the breach [9:58pm] jokeefe: Any opinions on endorsing the free Cameron D'Ambrosio effort? [9:58pm] davidd: srevilak agreed and so did i [9:59pm] Bluestreak joined the chat room. [9:59pm] Bluestreak was granted voice by [4Q]. [10:06pm] Bluestreak: Sorry I said "of course" instead of aye [10:07pm] Bluestreak: so: aye [10:07pm] jokeefe: motion passes [10:07pm] jokeefe: next: Election of new 1st Officer [10:09pm] Bluestreak: Am I supposed to say something/ [10:09pm] Bluestreak: ? [10:10pm] jokeefe: I never emailed asking for interim candidates, but did for the main ballot. didn't get any takers so far [10:10pm] srevilak: For my own curiosity - what are duties of the first officer? [10:11pm] Bluestreak: Assist the captain [10:11pm] jokeefe: "The 1st Officer shall be the Secretary of the party. She will also be a spokesperson for the party and will take over the duties when the Captain is unable to do so." [10:11pm] jokeefe: from http://www.masspirates.org/wiki/index.php?title=Articles_of_Agreement#6.4_Officers [10:12pm] srevilak: Ah. I was looking for "First officer" rather than "1st officer" [10:12pm] Bluestreak: I was thinking of USPP guidelines, I guess. [10:12pm] jokeefe: should change that to First [10:12pm] Bluestreak: Takers? [10:12pm] jokeefe: Bluestreak, give us yr pitch [10:13pm] Bluestreak: Little warning would have been nice! [10:13pm] Joe: Speech! [10:13pm] Joe: Speech! [10:13pm] Bluestreak: I was just out speaking on behalf of the Pirates at Jeff Roy's forum [10:14pm] Bluestreak: and by Jeff's forum, I mean he owned it [10:14pm] Bluestreak: We had to wait until after the forum for open discourse. [10:15pm] Bluestreak: I stayed as late as the rest, introduced myself as a Pirate to [10:15pm] Bluestreak: The event organizer [10:15pm] Bluestreak: The Exec Dir of Goal [10:15pm] Bluestreak: And some random fan I picked up from the Tea Party (I declined to join) [10:16pm] Bluestreak: Everyone got my name and a pamphlet. and I intro duced Joe to [10:16pm] Bluestreak: Rich Aucoin, and Bob Kaufman from our rod and gun club [10:17pm] Bluestreak: Who will both be a recsource in his campaign. [10:17pm] Bluestreak: Also [10:17pm] Bluestreak: I crafted the idea to fill the courtroom for Cameron though [10:18pm] passstab left the chat room. (Quit: Leaving) [10:18pm] Bluestreak: Garrett picked up the ball and ran with it [10:18pm] Bluestreak: Which is good because I have my plate full every weekend now representing the Pirates [10:19pm] Bluestreak: I am not shy and I am not afraid to confront authority, politely. [10:19pm] jokeefe: I can attest to that. She confronts me all the time. [10:20pm] jokeefe: [10:20pm] Bluestreak: lol [10:20pm] Bluestreak: with love, man [10:20pm] Joe: lol [10:21pm] Bluestreak: It was clear that the participants at the forum who supported gun rights were not pleased with how the forum was run... [10:21pm] jokeefe: what did they want instead? [10:21pm] Bluestreak: That the only questions allowed had to be written on paper and submitted [10:21pm] Joe: It felt more like a lecture than a discussion of any kind [10:22pm] Bluestreak: That Roy was then the arbitrator of which questions got asked and which panelist got asked them [10:22pm] passstab joined the chat room. [10:22pm] passstab was promoted to operator by [4Q]. [10:22pm] passstab was granted voice by [4Q]. [10:22pm] Bluestreak: And I articualted this concern to the orgnaizer of the event [10:22pm] [4Q] set a limit on the number of room members to 18. [10:22pm] jokeefe: his passstab [10:22pm] Bluestreak: I was the only one to do so, sort of [10:23pm] Bluestreak: Rich took the opportunity to back me up, but then we walked away without being unpleasant [10:23pm] jokeefe: k [10:23pm] jokeefe: So we can expect good things from you? [10:23pm] Bluestreak: So you have heard enough captain? [10:23pm] Kendra joined the chat room. [10:23pm] Kendra was granted voice by [4Q]. [10:23pm] Bluestreak: Hello! [10:24pm] [4Q] set a limit on the number of room members to 19. [10:24pm] jokeefe: hi Kendra [10:24pm] Bluestreak: I have the full support of my spouse [10:24pm] jokeefe: electing a new First Officer [10:24pm] Bluestreak: Who, gave up his NRO training in order to [10:24pm] Kendra: Sorry I am so late, got caught up with the Socilist Alternative [10:24pm] Bluestreak: bail me out when it became clear from her tweet stream [10:25pm] Bluestreak: that Lauren would not be helping me table in Cambridge on the 18th [10:25pm] Bluestreak: He has no regrets and supports me utterly [10:25pm] Bluestreak: (I am giving a speech!) [10:25pm] Kendra: Did I miss much? [10:25pm] Bluestreak: Glad you are here, Kendra [10:26pm] jokeefe: Kendra, I put the notes I have at http://www.masspirates.org/wiki/index.php?title=May_30th,_2013_IRC_Meeting [10:26pm] Kendra: Glad to be here, thanks for the notes. [10:26pm] Bluestreak: So... [10:27pm] jokeefe: Any questions for Bluestreak? [10:27pm] Joe: Welcome [10:27pm] Joe: And thanks for the notes [10:27pm] Kendra: What are the duties and responsibilities of the First Officer? [10:28pm] Bluestreak: http://www.masspirates.org/wiki/index.php?title=Articles_of_Agreement#6.4_Officers [10:29pm] Kendra: I meant to say "hi" to everybody too, but did not want to clog up the chat room with the formalities. So hi evrybody. [10:30pm] Bluestreak: Hee hee [10:30pm] jokeefe: Any questions? [10:31pm] jokeefe: that should be Any further questions? [10:31pm] srevilak: no further questions here [10:32pm] Kendra: I'll look over the notes and let you know if I have questions, probably later though. [10:32pm] jokeefe: k, was thinking we would vote on whether Bluestreak should be our interim First officer [10:33pm] Bluestreak: Until we have a proper election [10:34pm] Kendra: Actually I have a question, I am emailing the Dept Heads of the Universities Computer Science departments for additional speakers. I need to know about how many more speakers we would ideally have and how long they would be speaking? [10:34pm] Kendra: At the 6/29 conference. [10:35pm] jokeefe: talks are roughly an hour. not sure how many we need besides two on the crowd funding talk [10:35pm] Bluestreak: I think he meant questions for me [10:39pm] Bluestreak: Didn't you, captain? [10:39pm] jokeefe: yes [10:39pm] Kendra: Sorry, multi tasking. I do have a question for you after looking over the duties. Off of the top of my head, how will you communicate the message of the Mass Pirate Party to people who have not heard a out it? Is the new Wikileaks/Bradley movie coming out this weekend coming to Boston, and would that be a good opportunity to go and network the Pirate Party message and upcoming convention? [10:41pm] Bluestreak: That's not a bad idea. [10:42pm] Bluestreak: "how will you communicate the message of the Mass Pirate Party to people who have not heard about it?" You mean differently than I am now? with pamphlets and handshakes and Facebook and Twitter? [10:43pm] Bluestreak: When I introduce myself as from the Pirate Party, people LAUGH. [10:44pm] Bluestreak: I stay completely serious and explain the basics depending on who I am talking to and what their concerns are and slap a pamphlet in their hands. That's what I did tonight. That's what I always do. [10:45pm] Bluestreak: Denise Shultz laughed. James Wallace laughed. [10:45pm] Bluestreak: "I'm completely serious" [10:45pm] Bluestreak: Though I do grin [10:46pm] Bluestreak: Does that answer your question, Kendra? [10:46pm] [4Q]_ joined the chat room. [10:46pm] [4Q] left the chat room. (Read error: Connection reset by peer) [10:46pm] feedbot left the chat room. (Read error: Connection reset by peer) [10:46pm] [4Q]_ is now known as [4Q]. [10:46pm] [4Q] left the chat room. (Changing host) [10:46pm] [4Q] joined the chat room. [10:46pm] Kendra: They all laughed Christopher columbus when he said the world was round, they all laughed when Edison created sound. Sounds good. I am just trying to fufill the request to ask questions, I was unaware of all you are doing. I guess I was wondering a good way to get the message across with or without the laughter and have some impact. It is the question of the ages for a lot of the groups I am working with. Avoid [10:47pm] feedbot joined the chat room. [10:47pm] jokeefe: so all in favor of electing Bluestreak (Lucia Fiero) as interim First Officer to serve until the next election of all officer/pirate council positions [10:48pm] Kendra: Aye (in favor) [10:48pm] srevilak: Aye [10:48pm] Joe: Aye [10:48pm] Bluestreak: Do I vote? [10:48pm] Bluestreak: [10:49pm] jokeefe: aye [10:49pm] Bluestreak: aye? [10:49pm] Joe: I assume you do [10:49pm] jokeefe: not sure if we prevent you [10:49pm] jokeefe: any opposed? [10:52pm] jokeefe: any abstain? [10:55pm] jokeefe: ok, Bluestreak elected. Welcome First Officer. [10:55pm] Bluestreak: Thank you, all. [10:56pm] srevilak: congratulations Bluestreak [10:56pm] jokeefe: and srevilak as returning Quartermaster, [10:56pm] Joe: Grats [10:56pm] Kendra: congrats First Matey [10:56pm] Bluestreak: Yes I would have to step down as quartermaster, yes? [10:56pm] jokeefe: yes [10:57pm] Bluestreak: Yas? [10:57pm] Bluestreak: lol [10:57pm] Bluestreak: So do we need to elect... STEVE!? [10:57pm] Bluestreak: Because I nominate Steve [10:57pm] Bluestreak: ! [10:58pm] jokeefe: we already elected him at a General Meeting [10:58pm] jokeefe: Do folks want to continue or retire for the night? [10:59pm] srevilak: I could be ready to retire [10:59pm] Kendra: I have to go, I'm about to pass out. [10:59pm] srevilak: I can nod off reading M.G.L. 55 ch. 18(h) [10:59pm] Bluestreak: Oh yeah! [11:00pm] jokeefe: then motion to adjourn? [11:00pm] Bluestreak: Geez, maybe I am getting sleepy too!
