[3:59pm] jokeefe: hi SplendidSpoon
[4:00pm] SplendidSpoon: Hey hey
[4:01pm] mildbeard joined the chat room.
[4:01pm] mildbeard was promoted to operator by [4Q].
[4:01pm] mildbeard was granted voice by [4Q].
[4:01pm] [4Q] set a limit on the number of room members to 19.
[4:01pm] mildbeard: hi everyone!
[4:01pm] jokeefe: hi mildbeard
[4:02pm] mildbeard: Jamie, do you mind if I go ahead and create a couple quick liquid feedback intro videos?
[4:02pm] mildbeard: I know you were thinking of doing it - can hold off if you'd prefer.
[4:03pm] jokeefe: I won't get to it until this weekend so if you have the time, go for it.
[4:04pm] jokeefe: Cybersecurity Act has had my attention
[4:04pm] jokeefe: speaking of that Senate in a quorum call
[4:05pm] mildbeard: OK great - I will post a couple videos then and you can let me know what you think.
[4:06pm] jokeefe: looks like the Senate is considering S.3326, the African Growth and Opportunity Act and Burma Sanctions bill.
[4:06pm] jokeefe: today
[4:07pm] jokeefe: From: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/B?r112:@FIELD%28FLD003+d%29+@FIELD%28DDATE+20120801%29
[4:07pm] jokeefe: A unanimous-consent-time agreement was reached providing that at approximately 9:30 a.m., on Thursday, August 2, 2012, Senate begin consideration of S. 3326; following the debate on the Coburn amendment, the time until 11 a.m., be equally divided and controlled between the two Leaders, or their designees, prior to the cloture vote on S. 3414, Cybersecurity Act; provided further, that notwithstanding the outcome of the cloture vote, Senate proceed to vote on or in relation to Coburn amendment to S. 3326, and the remaining provisions of the previous order be executed; and that the filing deadline for second-degree amendments to S. 3414, be at 10 a.m., on Thursday, August 2, 2012.
[4:08pm] feedbot: [Twitter] masspirates: Today's IRC meeting agenda - http://t.co/KBVZ5L0M - http://twitter.com/masspirates/statuses/231057578887618560
[4:08pm] mildbeard: I called Sen. Brown's office and told them to vote against it.
[4:08pm] mildbeard: Senator Kerry's office has a voice mailbox that is full.
[4:09pm] jokeefe: LOL
[4:09pm] mildbeard: not very surprising ...
[4:09pm] jokeefe: yes
[4:10pm] jokeefe: so agenda at http://masspirates.org/wiki/index.php?title=August_2nd,_2012_IRC_Meeting
[4:10pm] jokeefe: Item 1. Cybersecurity Act of 2012
[4:10pm] jokeefe: Been tweeting and posting to FB a lot this week.  Sent email out this morning and a blog post went up an hour later
[4:11pm] mildbeard: awesome
[4:13pm] jokeefe: Item 2. Status of Liquid Feedback server
[4:13pm] jokeefe: Got two people as alpha testers
[4:13pm] jokeefe: Created accounts for them.
[4:14pm] mildbeard: Do we plan to put a link on the main page at some point, pointing to the instance?
[4:15pm] jokeefe: it is there
[4:16pm] mildbeard: Ah, so it is. I meant accessible from the top navigation menu.
[4:16pm] mildbeard: Once we've finished testing.
[4:17pm] jokeefe: yes
[4:17pm] mildbeard: Also - I created a proposed policy where we'd allow other states and US party to have their own units on the server. Does that sound like something we can do?
[4:17pm] jokeefe: though probably under a members section
[4:17pm] jokeefe: sure, though I am reluctant to have to maintain it
[4:18pm] mildbeard: yeah - I'd be willing to help with that.
[4:18pm] mildbeard: Anyway I created a proposal on the server itself about it.
[4:19pm] jokeefe: i think if we have a how to up, then they should go create their own instances, myself
[4:20pm] rcassidy: heya mildbeard, jokeefe
[4:20pm] mildbeard: hi rcassidy
[4:21pm] jokeefe: hi rcassidy
[4:21pm] rcassidy: sorry to interrupt agenda - carry on - missed that it had started
[4:21pm] jokeefe: we forgot ids
[4:21pm] jokeefe: James O'Keefe, Somerville
[4:21pm] mildbeard: Erik Zoltan, Framingham
[4:21pm] rcassidy: Ryan Cassidy, Jamaica Plain
[4:21pm] SplendidSpoon: Lauren Pespisa, Boxboro/Cambridge
[4:23pm] jokeefe: discussion so far & agenda at http://masspirates.org/wiki/index.php?title=August_2nd,_2012_IRC_Meeting
[4:23pm] jokeefe: pinging aphelion about email on LQFB server
[4:23pm] jokeefe: Item 3. Status of VPN testing
[4:26pm] mildbeard: So I sent out a proposed wording for what we would say to the finance people about being able to receive money.
[4:26pm] mildbeard: We've worked out most of the details with the VPN company about how to get paid and what information they will give us.
[4:27pm] mildbeard: I am still holding off on signing up for the system until we get the go ahead.
[4:27pm] mildbeard: Also Jamie you pointed out a security concern and I thought they addressed it forthrightly.
[4:27pm] jokeefe: I would say you should sign up for the system and test it out, they just shouldn't send us any money until OCPF approves
[4:28pm] mildbeard: OK then I will verify that they've set up our account, and I will go ahead and sign up!
[4:29pm] jokeefe: my guess is that if the OCPF approves it, then the entire amount would be considered a contribution and the fee for the company would be considered an expenditure
[4:30pm] jokeefe: I'll get to work writing up the request for the advisory opinion from OCPF and aim to get it in the mail to them next week.
[4:32pm] mildbeard: Let me know if there's anything I can contribute or any info I can provide.
[4:33pm] feedbot: [Twitter] masspirates: RT @publicknowledge: Fascinating: new study suggests rapid growth in 19th C Germany due to absence of #copyright http://t.co/PZ1igMZw - http://twitter.com/masspirates/statuses/231064392089874432
[4:33pm] jokeefe: will send out for review first
[4:34pm] jokeefe: Item 4. Suggestions for new Treasurer
[4:34pm] jokeefe: I asked around, but haven't found anyone yet
[4:35pm] jokeefe: time to announce it I would think
[4:35pm] mildbeard: probably a good idea. Sadly I have to scale back some of my activities rather than taking on new roles.
[4:37pm] jokeefe: understood, will get it out over the weekend/early next week
[4:37pm] jokeefe: Kit is working on the campaign finance report.  I have most of the info I know about for him and will get the rest to him later today/tonight
[4:38pm] jokeefe: Item 5. Upcoming Events
[4:39pm] jokeefe: SplendidSpoon, have you heard anything about the Pirate Picnic?
[4:40pm] mildbeard: I told my Mom it was on the 5th - need to know right away if that's not right because I plan to visit her on the 4th :).  I can change but have to do it soon.
[4:41pm] SplendidSpoon: Heard anything? Not really
[4:41pm] SplendidSpoon: When is that supposed to be happening? I've been distracted for the past month
[4:42pm] jokeefe: No idea.  I have pinged KM several times, but haven't heard back
[4:43pm] SplendidSpoon: yea she hasn't said anything to me but I also haven't asked
[4:47pm] mildbeard: It's going to be hard for anyone to attend if we don't know when it is.  Do we want to just postpone?
[4:48pm] jokeefe: we haven't announced a date, so no postponement needed.  I think this weekend is clear
[4:48pm] SplendidSpoon: I'd be down to do something this weekend
[4:49pm] jokeefe: if you want to crash a big BBQ in NH, I could invite you along
[4:49pm] SplendidSpoon: lol
[4:50pm] SplendidSpoon: I think Kate said something about yelling at Scientologists this weekend at the org
[4:50pm] SplendidSpoon: So maybe she does want to do something
[4:50pm] SplendidSpoon: Planning is had
[4:50pm] SplendidSpoon: hard*
[4:50pm] jokeefe: Her plan was to do that on the 4th then go to Georges island
[4:51pm] SplendidSpoon: oh why aren't we doing that?
[4:51pm] jokeefe: I suggested moving it to the 5th, but haven't heard a definite plan
[4:51pm] SplendidSpoon: oh I see
[4:52pm] SplendidSpoon: I dunno, I'm free every weekend I can forsee so whatevs I'll be there
[4:52pm] jokeefe: k
[4:52pm] jokeefe: I txt'd her, but you might have better luck
[4:53pm] jokeefe: the lunch is the 8th
[4:54pm] jokeefe: and the freedom rally is Sept. 15th
[4:54pm] SplendidSpoon: cool
[4:54pm] jokeefe: does it make sense to have a fall conference?
[4:55pm] jokeefe: planning, developing issues, etc.
[4:55pm] mildbeard: Do you mean like the conference in the spring?
[4:55pm] jokeefe: yes, though more of a discussion than people presenting
[4:56pm] mildbeard: how about sort of a vlogfest?
[4:56pm] jokeefe: hmmm… worth a try, how many people can we get on?
[4:57pm] mildbeard: well, I was thinking ask key people to get together and give short presentations, and have some discussions, video tape them and make some video blog entries with them, then post them with great fanfare on the web.
[4:58pm] jokeefe: so would it still be a physical meeting?
[4:58pm] mildbeard: it could be, but we'd want to make sure we had good sound and good lighting, and a critical point would be to attract attention on the web with good video material.
[4:59pm] mildbeard: At our spring conference, the primary idea was an in-person meeting and the video was secondary. I'm suggesting a fall conference with the opposite priorities, just to see how it goes.
[5:00pm] jokeefe: we could have weekly/bi-weekly live video discussions on different issues and post those and link them to proposals on LQFB
[5:00pm] mildbeard: ooh interesting
[5:01pm] mildbeard: I like that almost better.
[5:01pm] jokeefe: I like the idea of having a physical meeting that this all leads up to
[5:02pm] jokeefe: German Pirates have physical meeting to ratify any decisions in LQFB
[5:02pm] jokeefe: I believe that LQFB vets proposals and proposals over a certain threshold get voted on
[5:03pm] mildbeard: that's really awesome
[5:06pm] jokeefe: could also host parties for the discussion days in different places
[5:10pm] mildbeard: yeah I love the whole idea.
[5:10pm] jokeefe: ok, sounds like a plan that we need to finalize the details
[5:10pm] jokeefe: Item 6. National Party News & Pirate Picnic
[5:10pm] jokeefe: anything new?
[5:11pm] mildbeard: We ran into a problem because the Constitution says that any member party must have ratified the Constitution.
[5:11pm] mildbeard: Massachusetts was the only state present to have done so - so we didn't get that much done !
[5:11pm] jokeefe: you mean all?
[5:12pm] mildbeard: yes all
[5:12pm] mildbeard: We have to vote in permanent officers, and the Constitution as passed contains a provision that I didn't like, which states that the Captain must be a member of a full member party. And Travis is from Idaho...
[5:12pm] jokeefe: good to see we are ahead of the curve
[5:12pm] jokeefe: k
[5:12pm] mildbeard: There's a proposal to amend this. Unfortunately everyone has to ratify first before they can participate in the amendment process.
[5:13pm] mildbeard: So it's going to be a couple weeks before the PNC is fully up and running on a permanent basis.
[5:13pm] mildbeard: That's pretty much all at a national level.
[5:15pm] jokeefe: k
[5:16pm] rcassidy: is there time for Qs at the end of the meeting?
[5:16pm] jokeefe: sure one sec
[5:17pm] jokeefe: next item  is 7. Discussion of ballot questions in prep for a later vote - but we have some time on that and we could use LQFB/video meetings to discuss it.
[5:17pm] jokeefe: though it looks like the right to repair ballot initiative got superseded in a deal in the legislature
[5:17pm] jokeefe: what do you want to bring up rcassidy?
[5:18pm] mildbeard: how about the medical marijuana question, anyone heard about that?
[5:18pm] rcassidy: what about it?
[5:18pm] jokeefe: seems like a no brainer considering our past statement, mildbeard
[5:18pm] rcassidy: jokeefe: lots of idle newbie Qs, am registered pirate but never hung out in IRC before
[5:18pm] mildbeard: I don't mean whether we support it.
[5:18pm] jokeefe: sure fire a away
[5:18pm] jokeefe: rcassidy
[5:19pm] mildbeard: I mean if it has a chance to succeed and what if anything we want to do in support.
[5:19pm] rcassidy: mildbeard: i am heavily involved in MA drug policy reform
[5:19pm] feedbot: [Twitter] masspirates: RT @kade_ellis: Mandatory DNA collection in NY for people convicted of ALL crimes now. Why not just swipe at birth? http://t.co/wVea9kmX ... - http://twitter.com/masspirates/statuses/231075662465736705
[5:19pm] rcassidy: it has a high chance of succeeding - has been polling absurdly high
[5:19pm] rcassidy: it is a conservative docrot-patient written bill, very pharmaceutical-perspectivee initiative
[5:20pm] rcassidy: with some cool and not cool parts but i could go on and on
[5:20pm] rcassidy: jokeefe: just wondering about getting into lqfb, and meetings that don't take place over lunch cos i am always at work
[5:20pm] jokeefe: yes we are trying to move to LQFB
[5:21pm] mildbeard: rcassidy, are you on liquid feedback?
[5:21pm] jokeefe: email liquid-support@masspirates.org and we can add you
[5:21pm] rcassidy: i am not, buthave been quickly learning about it since i decided to get more involved with the pirates
[5:21pm] jokeefe:
[5:22pm] rcassidy: jokeefe: sent
[5:22pm] mildbeard: hey email me erik@masspirates.org - I will send you a link to the videos that explain how to get set up with liquid feedback, and you can tell me if they work!
[5:22pm] rcassidy: mildbeard: sent
[5:22pm] mildbeard: ok will reply soon thanks
[5:23pm] rcassidy: np!
[5:23pm] rcassidy: um, any questions for me? need a new body for anything?
[5:23pm] jokeefe: want to help at our table at Freedom Rally?
[5:24pm] rcassidy: grrr
[5:24pm] rcassidy: so i met you guys at the freedom rally last year
[5:24pm] rcassidy: i'm heavily involved with SSDP, students for sensible drug policy, am in grad school at NU
[5:24pm] rcassidy: but SSDP's strategy summit in DC this year is the same weekend at the freedom rally
[5:24pm] rcassidy: am actually really upset about it
[5:24pm] rcassidy: but i will be there
[5:24pm] rcassidy: instead of boston
[5:25pm] rcassidy: and even if i was here i'd be running that table! lol. but can help out - got your table registered yet?
[5:25pm] rcassidy: i know many of the board members of masscann/norml
[5:26pm] mildbeard: that's awesome
[5:26pm] rcassidy: btw you being at the freedom rally was what got me to register pirate, so thanks for that!
[5:26pm] jokeefe: glad to know our efforts helped
[5:26pm] jokeefe: what did you think of the location?
[5:27pm] rcassidy: was great! right across the way from our table IIRC
[5:27pm] jokeefe: lol
[5:28pm] rcassidy: back to ballot Qs though - right to repair does seem that it will be passed before elections
[5:29pm] rcassidy: so that leaves MMJ and Death w Dignity
[5:29pm] jokeefe: yes
[5:30pm] rcassidy: i can go on for a bit what i think about the MMJ bill... it's actually a confusing situation
[5:30pm] rcassidy: there exists a mmj bill in the house already - but it's basically dead
[5:31pm] rcassidy: so in response they filed for a *different* bill for a ballot Q - with actually some very different measures, compromises
[5:31pm] jokeefe: oh?
[5:31pm] rcassidy: yes.
[5:31pm] rcassidy: good parts:
[5:32pm] rcassidy: every dispensary must be a non profit
[5:32pm] rcassidy: this is good because in maine one of the conglomerate CA dispensaries owns 5/9 of them in the state
[5:32pm] jokeefe: +1
[5:33pm] rcassidy: bad parts: no grow your own unless you can demonstrate "hardship" to not afford dispensary prices
[5:33pm] rcassidy: this can be financial or physical
[5:33pm] mildbeard: what kind of prices do the dispensaries typically have?
[5:33pm] rcassidy: bad part 2: patient registry, hope it doesn't get supoenaed
[5:33pm] rcassidy: *subpoena
[5:34pm] rcassidy: mildbeard: depends. fluctuates. esp. since the feds have been raiding lately
[5:34pm] rcassidy: but typically less than black market
[5:34pm] rcassidy: with stuff at higher prices being absurdly high-quality
[5:35pm] rcassidy: anyway
[5:35pm] rcassidy: it's definitely a step in the right direction, even if it has drawbacks, i'm voting for it
[5:35pm] rcassidy: shame that the better bill is the one that got killed
[5:35pm] mildbeard: me too, next step is legalization.
[5:35pm] rcassidy: you can verify my claims if you want by looking at the official text
[5:35pm] rcassidy: http://www.mass.gov/ago/docs/government/2011-petitions/11-11.pdf
[5:36pm] mildbeard: hey we have a legalization policy on LQFB that you may want to weigh in on.
[5:36pm] rcassidy: i definitely would like to.
[5:36pm] rcassidy: anyone have any thoughts on death w dignity? i don't know much abt it
[5:38pm] rcassidy: am reading the text now... i have thoughts but since this is not a type of policy i am familiar with i don't want to be overlooking anything important
[5:38pm] mildbeard: I don't know the specifics of the measure, but some kind of change needs to happen.
[5:39pm] rcassidy: it's a comprehensive petition... 10+ pages
[5:39pm] rcassidy: http://www.mass.gov/ago/docs/government/2011-petitions/11-12.pdf
[5:39pm] mildbeard: The DR prescribes and the patient self-administers. This sort of thing happens a lot with a wink and a nod, but this would insulate DR's from legal action.
[5:40pm] rcassidy: definitely. and clauses included for witnesses, counseling reccomendation, it does seem like it covers a lot of loopholes, but i'm just a bit removed from the activism for this cause to get a picture of it
[5:40pm] rcassidy: i feel
[5:42pm] mildbeard: It even contains a form to fill out .....
[5:43pm] mildbeard: I think I'll be voting in favor - individual privacy and personal freedoms are important issues for the pirate party, and I think this hits those squarely on the nose.
[5:43pm] rcassidy: /agree
[5:45pm] mildbeard: I have to drop off soon - work is getting dicey.
[5:51pm] jokeefe: me too
[5:51pm] mildbeard: motion to adjourn
[5:51pm] jokeefe: 2nd
[5:51pm] mildbeard: aye
[5:51pm] jokeefe: rcassidy you are welcome to stay on
[5:51pm] jokeefe: aye
[5:52pm] mildbeard: have a great week, see you this weekend if we figure out when, and I can make it.
[5:52pm] jokeefe: you two, thanks!

[4:17pm] jokeefe: though probably under a members section [4:17pm] jokeefe: sure, though I am reluctant to have to maintain it [4:18pm] mildbeard: yeah - I'd be willing to help with that. [4:18pm] mildbeard: Anyway I created a proposal on the server itself about it. [4:19pm] jokeefe: i think if we have a how to up, then they should go create their own instances, myself [4:20pm] rcassidy: heya mildbeard, jokeefe [4:20pm] mildbeard: hi rcassidy [4:21pm] jokeefe: hi rcassidy [4:21pm] rcassidy: sorry to interrupt agenda - carry on - missed that it had started [4:21pm] jokeefe: we forgot ids [4:21pm] jokeefe: James O'Keefe, Somerville [4:21pm] mildbeard: Erik Zoltan, Framingham [4:21pm] rcassidy: Ryan Cassidy, Jamaica Plain [4:21pm] SplendidSpoon: Lauren Pespisa, Boxboro/Cambridge [4:23pm] jokeefe: discussion so far & agenda at http://masspirates.org/wiki/index.php?title=August_2nd,_2012_IRC_Meeting [4:23pm] jokeefe: pinging aphelion about email on LQFB server [4:23pm] jokeefe: Item 3. Status of VPN testing [4:26pm] mildbeard: So I sent out a proposed wording for what we would say to the finance people about being able to receive money. [4:27pm] jokeefe: I would say you should sign up for the system and test it out, they just shouldn't send us any money until OCPF approves [4:28pm] mildbeard: OK then I will verify that they've set up our account, and I will go ahead and sign up! [4:29pm] jokeefe: my guess is that if the OCPF approves it, then the entire amount would be considered a contribution and the fee for the company would be considered an expenditure [4:30pm] jokeefe: I'll get to work writing up the request for the advisory opinion from OCPF and aim to get it in the mail to them next week. [4:32pm] mildbeard: Let me know if there's anything I can contribute or any info I can provide. [4:33pm] feedbot: [Twitter] masspirates: RT @publicknowledge: Fascinating: new study suggests rapid growth in 19th C Germany due to absence of #copyright http://t.co/PZ1igMZw - http://twitter.com/masspirates/statuses/231064392089874432 [4:33pm] jokeefe: will send out for review first [4:34pm] jokeefe: Item 4. Suggestions for new Treasurer [4:34pm] jokeefe: I asked around, but haven't found anyone yet [4:35pm] jokeefe: time to announce it I would think [4:35pm] mildbeard: probably a good idea. Sadly I have to scale back some of my activities rather than taking on new roles. [4:37pm] jokeefe: understood, will get it out over the weekend/early next week [4:37pm] jokeefe: Kit is working on the campaign finance report. I have most of the info I know about for him and will get the rest to him later today/tonight [4:38pm] jokeefe: Item 5. Upcoming Events [4:39pm] jokeefe: SplendidSpoon, have you heard anything about the Pirate Picnic? [4:40pm] mildbeard: I told my Mom it was on the 5th - need to know right away if that's not right because I plan to visit her on the 4th :). I can change but have to do it soon. [4:41pm] SplendidSpoon: Heard anything? Not really [4:41pm] SplendidSpoon: When is that supposed to be happening? I've been distracted for the past month [4:42pm] jokeefe: No idea. I have pinged KM several times, but haven't heard back [4:43pm] SplendidSpoon: yea she hasn't said anything to me but I also haven't asked [4:47pm] mildbeard: It's going to be hard for anyone to attend if we don't know when it is. Do we want to just postpone? [4:48pm] jokeefe: we haven't announced a date, so no postponement needed. I think this weekend is clear [4:48pm] SplendidSpoon: I'd be down to do something this weekend [4:49pm] jokeefe: if you want to crash a big BBQ in NH, I could invite you along [4:49pm] SplendidSpoon: lol [4:50pm] SplendidSpoon: I think Kate said something about yelling at Scientologists this weekend at the org [4:50pm] SplendidSpoon: So maybe she does want to do something [4:50pm] SplendidSpoon: Planning is had [4:50pm] SplendidSpoon: hard* [4:50pm] jokeefe: Her plan was to do that on the 4th then go to Georges island [4:51pm] SplendidSpoon: oh why aren't we doing that? [4:51pm] jokeefe: I suggested moving it to the 5th, but haven't heard a definite plan [4:51pm] SplendidSpoon: oh I see [4:52pm] SplendidSpoon: I dunno, I'm free every weekend I can forsee so whatevs I'll be there [4:52pm] jokeefe: k [4:52pm] jokeefe: I txt'd her, but you might have better luck [4:53pm] jokeefe: the lunch is the 8th [4:54pm] jokeefe: and the freedom rally is Sept. 15th [4:54pm] SplendidSpoon: cool [4:54pm] jokeefe: does it make sense to have a fall conference? [4:55pm] jokeefe: planning, developing issues, etc. [4:55pm] mildbeard: Do you mean like the conference in the spring? [4:55pm] jokeefe: yes, though more of a discussion than people presenting [4:56pm] mildbeard: how about sort of a vlogfest? [5:00pm] jokeefe: we could have weekly/bi-weekly live video discussions on different issues and post those and link them to proposals on LQFB [5:00pm] mildbeard: ooh interesting [5:01pm] mildbeard: I like that almost better. [5:01pm] jokeefe: I like the idea of having a physical meeting that this all leads up to [5:02pm] jokeefe: German Pirates have physical meeting to ratify any decisions in LQFB [5:02pm] jokeefe: I believe that LQFB vets proposals and proposals over a certain threshold get voted on [5:03pm] mildbeard: that's really awesome [5:06pm] jokeefe: could also host parties for the discussion days in different places [5:10pm] mildbeard: yeah I love the whole idea. [5:10pm] jokeefe: ok, sounds like a plan that we need to finalize the details [5:10pm] jokeefe: Item 6. National Party News & Pirate Picnic [5:10pm] jokeefe: anything new? [5:11pm] mildbeard: We ran into a problem because the Constitution says that any member party must have ratified the Constitution. [5:11pm] mildbeard: Massachusetts was the only state present to have done so - so we didn't get that much done ! [5:11pm] jokeefe: you mean all? [5:12pm] mildbeard: yes all [5:12pm] mildbeard: We have to vote in permanent officers, and the Constitution as passed contains a provision that I didn't like, which states that the Captain must be a member of a full member party. And Travis is from Idaho... [5:12pm] jokeefe: good to see we are ahead of the curve [5:12pm] jokeefe: k [5:12pm] mildbeard: There's a proposal to amend this. Unfortunately everyone has to ratify first before they can participate in the amendment process. [5:13pm] mildbeard: So it's going to be a couple weeks before the PNC is fully up and running on a permanent basis. [5:13pm] mildbeard: That's pretty much all at a national level. [5:15pm] jokeefe: k [5:16pm] rcassidy: is there time for Qs at the end of the meeting? [5:16pm] jokeefe: sure one sec [5:17pm] jokeefe: next item is 7. Discussion of ballot questions in prep for a later vote - but we have some time on that and we could use LQFB/video meetings to discuss it. [5:17pm] jokeefe: though it looks like the right to repair ballot initiative got superseded in a deal in the legislature [5:17pm] jokeefe: what do you want to bring up rcassidy? [5:18pm] mildbeard: how about the medical marijuana question, anyone heard about that? [5:18pm] rcassidy: what about it? [5:18pm] jokeefe: seems like a no brainer considering our past statement, mildbeard [5:18pm] rcassidy: jokeefe: lots of idle newbie Qs, am registered pirate but never hung out in IRC before [5:18pm] mildbeard: I don't mean whether we support it. [5:18pm] jokeefe: sure fire a away [5:18pm] jokeefe: rcassidy [5:19pm] mildbeard: I mean if it has a chance to succeed and what if anything we want to do in support. [5:19pm] rcassidy: mildbeard: i am heavily involved in MA drug policy reform [5:19pm] feedbot: [Twitter] masspirates: RT @kade_ellis: Mandatory DNA collection in NY for people convicted of ALL crimes now. Why not just swipe at birth? http://t.co/wVea9kmX ... - http://twitter.com/masspirates/statuses/231075662465736705 [5:19pm] rcassidy: it has a high chance of succeeding - has been polling absurdly high [5:19pm] rcassidy: it is a conservative docrot-patient written bill, very pharmaceutical-perspectivee initiative [5:20pm] rcassidy: with some cool and not cool parts but i could go on and on [5:20pm] rcassidy: jokeefe: just wondering about getting into lqfb, and meetings that don't take place over lunch cos i am always at work [5:20pm] jokeefe: yes we are trying to move to LQFB [5:21pm] mildbeard: rcassidy, are you on liquid feedback? [5:21pm] jokeefe: email liquid-support@masspirates.org and we can add you [5:21pm] rcassidy: i am not, buthave been quickly learning about it since i decided to get more involved with the pirates [5:21pm] jokeefe: [5:22pm] rcassidy: jokeefe: sent [5:22pm] mildbeard: hey email me erik@masspirates.org - I will send you a link to the videos that explain how to get set up with liquid feedback, and you can tell me if they work! [5:22pm] rcassidy: mildbeard: sent [5:22pm] mildbeard: ok will reply soon thanks [5:23pm] rcassidy: np! [5:23pm] rcassidy: um, any questions for me? need a new body for anything? [5:23pm] jokeefe: want to help at our table at Freedom Rally? [5:24pm] rcassidy: grrr [5:24pm] rcassidy: so i met you guys at the freedom rally last year [5:24pm] rcassidy: i'm heavily involved with SSDP, students for sensible drug policy, am in grad school at NU [5:24pm] rcassidy: but SSDP's strategy summit in DC this year is the same weekend at the freedom rally [5:24pm] rcassidy: am actually really upset about it [5:24pm] rcassidy: but i will be there [5:24pm] rcassidy: instead of boston [5:25pm] rcassidy: and even if i was here i'd be running that table! lol. but can help out - got your table registered yet? [5:25pm] rcassidy: i know many of the board members of masscann/norml [5:26pm] mildbeard: that's awesome [5:26pm] rcassidy: btw you being at the freedom rally was what got me to register pirate, so thanks for that! [5:26pm] jokeefe: glad to know our efforts helped [5:26pm] jokeefe: what did you think of the location? [5:27pm] rcassidy: was great! right across the way from our table IIRC [5:27pm] jokeefe: lol [5:28pm] rcassidy: back to ballot Qs though - right to repair does seem that it will be passed before elections [5:29pm] rcassidy: so that leaves MMJ and Death w Dignity [5:29pm] jokeefe: yes [5:30pm] rcassidy: i can go on for a bit what i think about the MMJ bill... it's actually a confusing situation [5:30pm] rcassidy: there exists a mmj bill in the house already - but it's basically dead [5:31pm] rcassidy: so in response they filed for a *different* bill for a ballot Q - with actually some very different measures, compromises [5:31pm] jokeefe: oh? [5:31pm] rcassidy: yes. [5:31pm] rcassidy: good parts: [5:32pm] rcassidy: every dispensary must be a non profit [5:32pm] rcassidy: this is good because in maine one of the conglomerate CA dispensaries owns 5/9 of them in the state [5:32pm] jokeefe: +1 [5:33pm] rcassidy: bad parts: no grow your own unless you can demonstrate "hardship" to not afford dispensary prices [5:33pm] rcassidy: this can be financial or physical [5:33pm] mildbeard: what kind of prices do the dispensaries typically have? [5:33pm] rcassidy: bad part 2: patient registry, hope it doesn't get supoenaed [5:33pm] rcassidy: *subpoena [5:34pm] rcassidy: mildbeard: depends. fluctuates. esp. since the feds have been raiding lately [5:34pm] rcassidy: but typically less than black market [5:34pm] rcassidy: with stuff at higher prices being absurdly high-quality [5:35pm] rcassidy: anyway [5:35pm] rcassidy: it's definitely a step in the right direction, even if it has drawbacks, i'm voting for it [5:35pm] rcassidy: shame that the better bill is the one that got killed [5:35pm] mildbeard: me too, next step is legalization. [5:35pm] rcassidy: you can verify my claims if you want by looking at the official text [5:35pm] rcassidy: http://www.mass.gov/ago/docs/government/2011-petitions/11-11.pdf [5:36pm] mildbeard: hey we have a legalization policy on LQFB that you may want to weigh in on. [5:36pm] rcassidy: i definitely would like to. [5:36pm] rcassidy: anyone have any thoughts on death w dignity? i don't know much abt it [5:38pm] rcassidy: am reading the text now... i have thoughts but since this is not a type of policy i am familiar with i don't want to be overlooking anything important [5:38pm] mildbeard: I don't know the specifics of the measure, but some kind of change needs to happen. [5:39pm] rcassidy: it's a comprehensive petition... 10+ pages [5:39pm] rcassidy: http://www.mass.gov/ago/docs/government/2011-petitions/11-12.pdf [5:39pm] mildbeard: The DR prescribes and the patient self-administers. This sort of thing happens a lot with a wink and a nod, but this would insulate DR's from legal action. [5:40pm] rcassidy: definitely. and clauses included for witnesses, counseling reccomendation, it does seem like it covers a lot of loopholes, but i'm just a bit removed from the activism for this cause to get a picture of it [5:40pm] rcassidy: i feel [5:42pm] mildbeard: It even contains a form to fill out ..... [5:43pm] mildbeard: I think I'll be voting in favor - individual privacy and personal freedoms are important issues for the pirate party, and I think this hits those squarely on the nose. [5:43pm] rcassidy: /agree [5:45pm] mildbeard: I have to drop off soon - work is getting dicey. [5:51pm] jokeefe: me too [5:51pm] mildbeard: motion to adjourn [5:51pm] jokeefe: 2nd [5:51pm] mildbeard: aye [5:51pm] jokeefe: rcassidy you are welcome to stay on [5:51pm] jokeefe: aye [5:52pm] mildbeard: have a great week, see you this weekend if we figure out when, and I can make it. [5:52pm] jokeefe: you two, thanks!
