BSides Cambridge / Member Meeting Conflict?

The BSides Cambridge event is on the same day as our 10/25/2026 Member Meeting. They don't overlap, but since some of us will be teaching people how to protect their privacy at BSides Cambridge, do we want to move this meeting to the week before?

Planning for 2027 Conference

The 2026 national conference functioned as our conference, but our last conference was in 2025. Suggest we:

  • contact The Center for Arts at the Armory and see when the ROOTED Café will be open from January 2027 to May 2027 and what the price will be for a 6-8 hour block;
  • put out a call for other locations that are accessible, near public transit and parking.

Projects/Events

Fall Surveillance Mapping Events

I am scheduling four upcoming Surveillance Mapping outings prior to the Boston Anarchist Bookfair on Nov. 7-8. I haven't heard whether we can have a table at it.

The event days are:

  • 9/12
  • 9/19
  • 10/10
  • 10/31

I objectives would be to:

  1. finish mapping all the camera locations around the Cambridge Community Center;
  2. map the exact locations of all the Shotspotters in Cambridge;
  3. map surveillance devices in Salem for Halloween (10/31).

Observers

Summary

Cambridge forming some sort of committee to hear public testimony about shotspotter, and make a recommendation on whether to continue using the devices.

A host of municipalities have decided to get rid of their flock cameras. Yay.

We won't have a meeting after BSides. We'll meet the following Sunday.

2027 Member Meeting. Sometime between January and May of 2027. Will do a survey that asks people to suggest locations.

USPP updates. Tonight there will be discussion on where to hold the next conference. There are some growing pains from new Member states (which isn't a bad problem to have).

Camera Mapping. Was a glitch when our hosting provider moved cctv.masspirates.org to new infrastructure. In the process of straightening that out.

BSide Cambridge. Security conference. We're doing a cryptoparty.

2027 Campaigns and voter outreach.

Pirate News. Still one that needs to be edited and posted. We'll record one next Sunday at 8pm.
