Fundraising & Conference
In thinking about when to hold our Winter fundraiser and Spring Conference:
- Together Boston music festival will be May 14-21st, 2017.
- College spring breaks are usually in mid March
- College exams are in early/mid May
- Many public schools have April 14 to the 21st off, so 14th to the 23rd is a vacation time for enough people.
Which leaves March 26-27, April 8-9 and April 29-30.
Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Day is March 27th. Palm Sunday is April 9th. I don't see any other holidays those weekends
Suggest March 26, April 8, 29th or 30th. We could do another survey to pick the final date.

We went over backups, CiviCRM and backups. Set the next one for 1/14, 2-4pm [9:11pm] Bluestreak: The man does not understand copyright reform [9:12pm] jokeefe: Many don’t [9:13pm] jokeefe: We found that Arlington had installed several cameras in the neighborhood [9:14pm] Bluestreak: I have a thing [9:14pm] Bluestreak: There was an incedent at my boy's school [9:14pm] Bluestreak: Social media threats, expulsion, calls home to all the parents. [9:15pm] Bluestreak: #newnormal [9:15pm] G: why? [9:16pm] G: was someone threatening the school? or threatening your kid? [9:17pm] Bluestreak: Someone in the Engineering track making threat against others in that track [9:18pm] Bluestreak: My kid is Graphics Communications. [9:18pm] Bluestreak: His friends are in Engineering though. [9:18pm] Bluestreak: Thry hav lock down drills. [9:18pm] Bluestreak: Life in HS is so weird now. [9:19pm] jokeefe: No more duck and cover at least. for now. [9:19pm] G: weirder than ducking under your desk to avoid atomic annihilation ? [9:19pm] Bluestreak: So zero tolerance for words spoken on soc med now. [9:19pm] G: [9:21pm] jokeefe: easier to track such statements when issued digitally [9:22pm] jokeefe: Endorsements - I signed us up to the ACLU-led letter opposing BPD's efforts to spy on people on Social Media [9:22pm] Moses left the chat room. (Ping timeout: 244 seconds) [9:23pm] jokeefe: Projects [9:24pm] jokeefe: Local Surveillance Ordinances - srevilak is putting one before Arlington town meeting [9:26pm] jokeefe: The MAAPL Fight Foreclosure Campaign is busy [9:26pm] srevilak joined the chat room. [9:26pm] jokeefe: ahoy srevilak [9:26pm] srevilak: hi all [9:26pm] srevilak: just getting back from ZBA meeting [9:26pm] Bluestreak: Ahoy [9:26pm] jokeefe: how goes the Arlington surveillance ordinance? [9:27pm] srevilak: sent to town manager & town counsel [9:27pm] jokeefe: cool [9:28pm] srevilak: town counsel says he'll need time to look at it, but suspects it might not be viable in ARlington [9:28pm] srevilak: (aka it would exceed the scope of what town meeting can do) [9:28pm] srevilak: So, I need to do research [9:28pm] jokeefe: so who can do it? Select board? [9:29pm] srevilak: One of the explicit powers of a town meeting is to enact town bylaws [9:29pm] jokeefe: it being the town legislature [9:29pm] srevilak: So, saying proposed article isn't viable, is more or less equivalent to saying [9:29pm] srevilak: the town does not have the authority to regulate surveillance equipment [9:30pm] srevilak: Our town counsel said he'd have a chat with Cambridge city solicitor [9:30pm] srevilak: I'm planning to write to camb. city solicitor too [9:31pm] srevilak: I wrote to the other 11 TMM's in my precinct, about the prevalance of surveillance cameras [9:31pm] jokeefe: might reach out to kade or alex as well [9:31pm] srevilak: None were aware of them. No one seemed pleased by the result. [9:31pm] srevilak: jokeefe: yes, have been talking with alex [9:31pm] jokeefe: have you seen any else where? [9:32pm] srevilak: cameras -- no. [9:32pm] srevilak: There are several blocks of public housing, and the cameras are concentrated within one block [9:32pm] jokeefe: I didn’t see any on broadway, the part I looked at or further down your road [9:32pm] srevilak: one TMM wondered if they were operated by AHA [9:33pm] jokeefe: but they weren’t pointing at the public housing [9:33pm] srevilak: The entire block across the street from my house is public housing [9:33pm] srevilak: As is the block to the south of it [9:35pm] srevilak: I have homework to do [9:35pm] srevilak: One of my neighbors collected APD crime statistics for the streets where [9:35pm] srevilak: cameras are placed. Not a terribly profic area for crime [9:36pm] Bluestreak: They are all over my son't school. [9:36pm] Bluestreak: Something about the Police looking to spy, and the schools already doing it... [9:37pm] Bluestreak: On the tip of my toungue. [9:37pm] jokeefe: new normal? [9:37pm] Bluestreak: The kids can't reject it, though [9:38pm] jokeefe: Could wear masks for a day [9:38pm] Bluestreak: Oh right an get expelled. [9:38pm] srevilak: For me, next step is finding out who owns cameras, and asking for polices regarding access, purpose, data retention, and sharing [9:38pm] jokeefe: Yes, it needs to be an action that a lot of kids participate in [9:38pm] G: the kids can't do it [9:39pm] G: parents need to be outraged [9:39pm] jokeefe: sounds good, srevilak [9:39pm] Bluestreak: The parents support it. [9:39pm] Bluestreak: Everyone is so spooked. [9:39pm] Bluestreak: "Please take away our kids rights!" [9:39pm] jokeefe: cameras don’t stop people with a gun, but we know that [9:40pm] Bluestreak: Even I am thinking "now the expelled kid will come back with a gun!" [9:40pm] G: so we need some kinda bill against the cameras in schools [9:40pm] G: ? [9:40pm] jokeefe: MAAPL has a bunch of anti-foreclosure clinics coming up - Plymouth, Worcester, Athol, New Bedford, Springfield, Somerville so far [9:41pm] jokeefe: G, step 1. write the bill. 2. get someone in the legislature to sponsor it [9:42pm] G: they can't refuse to introduce it [9:42pm] G: [9:42pm] jokeefe: agreed, but without a sponsor they get ignored more than usual [9:42pm] Bluestreak: Taunton. [9:42pm] Bluestreak: There should be one there. [9:42pm] G: so if there is parent support... Lu Lu you should right it up [9:42pm] G: Taunton? we have friends in the Silver City [9:42pm] Bluestreak: Don't know what I think. [9:43pm] G: for som'n like that, a non-official petition (signature gathering) can get you a legislator or two on board. we just have to demonstrate support and we can lobby.... [9:44pm] jokeefe: Still working on finding locations for the campaign workshops [9:45pm] jokeefe: The Somerville cryptoparty will be 12/28 at E5, 6-9pm [9:46pm] jokeefe: G agreed to call volunteers who are interested in starting local chapters [9:47pm] G: i did. i haven't received anything from you via the intermails [9:47pm] jokeefe: Thanks for the reminder. Will send it out by tomorrow [9:48pm] jokeefe: Conference - Suggest March 26, April 8, 29th or 30th. We could do another survey to pick the final date. With a conference in Feb. [9:48pm] jokeefe: I mean fundraiser in Feb. [9:49pm] jokeefe: That is all I have. [9:49pm] jokeefe: Anything else? [9:50pm] G: nay [9:50pm] srevilak: nothing here [9:51pm] Bluestreak: April 30th [9:51pm] Bluestreak: [9:51pm] G: legal on thursday! [9:51pm] G: [9:52pm] jokeefe: yay! [9:52pm] jokeefe: You should write something up for it G [9:52pm] Bluestreak: Woot. [9:53pm] Bluestreak: Jason is ins Lousiana for this momentous day [9:53pm] Bluestreak: SOOOOO not leagl there. [9:53pm] G: well LULU was supposed to send me a tshirt but i guess she forgot... [9:53pm] G: cause i'll be engaging in a legal cannabis swap on the steps on thursday [9:55pm] jokeefe: have a glorious Thursday [9:55pm] Bluestreak: Ugh. [9:55pm] Bluestreak: Tomorrow. OK/ [9:56pm] Bluestreak: ? [9:56pm] Bluestreak: XL [9:56pm] Bluestreak: XXL [9:56pm] Bluestreak: White or black? [9:56pm] G: XL. white ? [9:56pm] G: are you bringing it over tomorrow? ! [9:56pm] Bluestreak: OK [9:56pm] G: [9:57pm] jokeefe: shall we adjourn? [9:57pm] G: how rude [9:57pm] Bluestreak: ? [9:57pm] Bluestreak: it's time [9:57pm] G: fine i move to adjourn [9:57pm] Bluestreak: 2nd [9:58pm] jokeefe: all in favor?
