[12:16] <SplendidSpoon> I got a new pirate registered [12:16] <SplendidSpoon> and a bunch of people to add to contact lists [12:16] <SplendidSpoon> and sold 1 shirt and 2 books [12:16] <jokeefe> Saw, and in my home town [12:16] <SplendidSpoon> But I had lots of fun [12:17] <SplendidSpoon> Ran out of flyers too haha [12:17] <jokeefe> yes, need to get new ones [12:17] <jokeefe> esp for the 28th. [12:17] <jokeefe> & 5th & 12th [12:17] <jokeefe> :-) [12:18] <SplendidSpoon> yup [12:19] <jokeefe> the copyright panel went well on Wednesday. Video of it is up. [12:19] <jokeefe> kind of small [12:19] <[bsod]> is it tuesday at noon already [12:19] <jokeefe> but lots of good questions. [12:19] <jokeefe> yes, bsod [12:19] <[bsod]> heh [12:20] <jokeefe> :-) [12:20] <SplendidSpoon> Yes people I saw on Sat mentioned seeing you at the panel [12:20] <[bsod]> forgot, my kids home sick today [12:20] <SplendidSpoon> They said they liked it [12:20] <jokeefe> hope they get better soon, bsod [12:20] <[bsod]> saw SplendidSpoon in arstechnicia [12:20] <[bsod]> oh its just one [12:20] <jokeefe> Yay! [12:20] <[bsod]> kid's (kid is) ? [12:20] <jokeefe> re: picture [12:20] <[bsod]> ya vs plural has no ' [12:20] <SplendidSpoon> :) [12:20] <[bsod]> ok, got it [12:21] <[bsod]> oh, H.R. 3523 is on the agenda [12:22] <[bsod]> i like that one [12:22] <jokeefe> I went into the panel sort of expecting to get push back, but we all agreed on the fundamental points [12:22] <[bsod]> http://activepolitic.com:82/News/2012-04-09g/The_28_Corporations_that_support_CISPA.html [12:22] <[bsod]> push back from anti-pirates? [12:22] <jokeefe> no one said copying is stealing [12:23] <[bsod]> ruins the whole thing if one person trips you up [12:23] <jokeefe> there were two music industry related folks, but we all agreed that shareing was here and how do we compensate the artists? [12:23] == erixoltan [~erik@pool-71-174-228-218.bstnma.fios.verizon.net] has joined #masspirates [12:23] <jokeefe> though I was the only one to ask "who is an artist?" [12:24] <jokeefe> hi erix [12:24] <erixoltan> hi, sorry to be late. [12:25] <[bsod]> i think music is less important than many basic things we dont have or cant do because of economics [12:25] <jokeefe> NP - agenda / meeting minutes at http://masspirates.org/wiki/index.php?title=April_10th,_2012_IRC_Meeting [12:26] <jokeefe> So Item 3. H.R. 3523: Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act of 2011 [12:26] <jokeefe> K`tetch did you end up writing a statement? [12:27] <[bsod]> illunatic was published in torrentfreak about it [12:27] <[bsod]> http://torrentfreak.com/draconian-privacy-invasion-bill-continues-to-gain-support-120404/ [12:27] <jokeefe> cool! [12:27] <[bsod]> there have since been many better articles tho [12:27] <[bsod]> lol [12:28] <[bsod]> hes traveling right now, havent seen him in a couple days [12:29] <[bsod]> so, do we all agree that cispa is bad ? [12:29] <jokeefe> I like the con man angle [12:29] <jokeefe> aye! [12:29] <erixoltan> aye [12:29] <jokeefe> no data retention as the Europeans say [12:30] <jokeefe> you got a one paragraph statement why it is bad, bsod? [12:30] <[bsod]> hmm [12:30] <jokeefe> anybody? [12:30] <[bsod]> falkvinge said that state collected data was never used for the benefit of its citizens [12:31] <SplendidSpoon> wait [12:31] <jokeefe> citizens have no privacy, but governments do [12:31] <SplendidSpoon> does that include the census [12:31] <erixoltan> join uspp [12:31] <[bsod]> there was a good line about how the dutch collected info on religions of the people so they could plan how many churches and temples they needed, then there was a regime change in goverment and hitler used that info [12:31] <erixoltan> whoops [12:31] <SplendidSpoon> i see [12:32] <[bsod]> good question tho [12:32] <[bsod]> does the census benefit us [12:32] <[bsod]> we lost a representative lol [12:32] <jokeefe> If the house increased with the population, that isn't an issue. [12:33] <[bsod]> http://falkvinge.net/2012/03/17/collected-personal-data-will-always-be-used-against-the-citizens/ [12:34] <[bsod]> i tried to get rid of jim mcgovern but i think we lost barney frank instead [12:34] <SplendidSpoon> yup [12:34] <[bsod]> too bad, one of the democrats i actually like [12:35] <jokeefe> though he was very tied to the financial sector [12:35] <SplendidSpoon> lol [12:35] <[bsod]> that seems to be a part of politics [12:35] <SplendidSpoon> i always say when people say tht about him [12:35] <SplendidSpoon> "you just like him cause hes gay" [12:36] <[bsod]> it was the marijuana advocation that i first noticed [12:36] <jokeefe> true [12:37] <jokeefe> I guess I would prefer any statement on CISPA focus on it and not on wider issues such as the census. [12:37] <[bsod]> anyways, single short statement about cispa [12:37] <jokeefe> anyone want to take a stab at it? [12:38] <[bsod]> Just as SOPA put an emphasis on piracy, CISPA also appears to include the infringement of intellectual property as a security threat warranting access to user data. The definition of theft or misappropriation of private or government information is given four times throughout the bill H.R. 3523. Under CISPA, Internet providers and other companies could be expected to hand user data over to government agencies and even other compani [12:38] <[bsod]> CISPA violates privacy and undermines free speech. [12:39] <erixoltan> They're going to force everyone behind encryption, firewalls, Tor etc. [12:41] <[bsod]> "theres no longer a need to select who you intercept you intercept everyone and you permanently record the whole thing, and then if sometime in the future you become interested in someone, you have the whole archive of all their communications and you understand who they are and who their friends are. You dont even need intelligence agents to do this there are algorithms that fan out and look at the network of people and how th [12:42] <[bsod]> i dunno, i think one of the problems with drafting a "cyber security" bill is that cyber security is a made up buzz word [12:42] <jokeefe> aye [12:42] <jokeefe> "However, the broad language means there is no explicit restriction about the type of information being shared between government and companies, so long as it could somehow be linked to cyber-threats. That’s very worrisome on privacy grounds, since it makes it easier for companies to hand over any information the government asks for and not worry about getting sued by irate users." [12:42] <jokeefe> "Privacy and online speech advocate Electronic Frontier Foundation attacked the proposed bill last month, claiming that it unfairly targets anti-government whistleblower sites. “The language is so broad it could be used as a blunt instrument to attack Websites like The Pirate Bay or WikiLeaks,” wrote EFF’s Rainey Reitman." [12:42] <jokeefe> From http://securitywatch.pcmag.com/security/296402-forget-sopa-is-cispa-internet-s-new-enemy [12:43] <jokeefe> BTW: according to Techdirt, the Obama admin as gone after twice as many whistle blowers as all other presidents combined [12:44] <[bsod]> yes, ive also read that elsewhere in the past [12:45] <SplendidSpoon> yup [12:46] <jokeefe> I can take a stab at it. Shall we discuss the draft Thursday at noon? [12:47] <jokeefe> or next Tuesday? [12:47] <[bsod]> sounds fine, im always here [12:47] <[bsod]> im not a very good writer, of the posts i do on my blog its always direct to the facts and boring lol [12:47] <jokeefe> nothing wrong with that [12:48] <[bsod]> i prefer to pirate someones stuff or get contributions lol [12:48] <jokeefe> lol [12:48] <thetimface> i wouldn't mind proof reading or editing if thats helpful [12:48] <jokeefe> that would be great. [12:49] <[bsod]> ill make sure its all in english [12:49] <[bsod]> i get asked to do that alot for some reason [12:50] <jokeefe> http://piratenpad.de/p/masscispastatement [12:50] <jokeefe> is the workspace [12:50] <[bsod]> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aafRar_QUI [12:52] <[bsod]> somehow merge all those paragraphs into one [12:52] <[bsod]> we need the lowest common denominator [12:53] <jokeefe> we can have more than one paragraph [12:55] <[bsod]> o [12:56] <jokeefe> Next up - film fest- [12:56] <jokeefe> http://piratenpad.de/p/masspiratesfilmfest [12:56] <erixoltan> I have added some suggestions to the piratepad. [12:56] <erixoltan> Still watching movies. [12:57] <[bsod]> apparently falkvinge talked about managing swarms or something in that ted talk [12:57] <erixoltan> good talk [12:57] <jokeefe> cool [12:57] <passstab> zenith? [12:58] <[bsod]> i didnt watch it, but i heard that angerd piratbyran and telecomix people [12:58] <jokeefe> I spoke with Jared Ball to confirm that he is still speaking. he says, yes, but he also wants to talk about his latest book on Malcolm X. [12:58] <erixoltan> They took Zenith down from vodo, maybe we should remove it from the list? [12:58] <jokeefe> in addition to his book on rap and remixing [12:58] <thetimface> wheres the filmfest being held? [12:58] <[bsod]> i wonder why they took it down [12:58] <jokeefe> Democracy Center, May 12th [12:58] <[bsod]> the orignial little shop of horrors sucked btw [12:58] <[bsod]> hehe [12:59] <erixoltan> removed at the request of the creator [12:59] <jokeefe> ah [12:59] <[bsod]> ouch [12:59] <[bsod]> yup, off the list then [13:00] <erixoltan> The best things I've seen so far are Time Expired and Pioneer One. [13:00] <[bsod]> pioneer one seems to be the most popular on torrent sites [13:01] <erixoltan> It's good and they have multiple episodes. [13:01] <[bsod]> its a series [13:01] <[bsod]> yea [13:02] <jokeefe> Well we have seven hours of time. Figure the talk is two hours, that leaves five hours. But probably starts 5 min in and ends 5mins before the hour. so really only 250 minutes or 350 minutes if Jared cannot make it. [13:02] <jokeefe> we should put times up next to items [13:03] <erixoltan> Also on my personal list, I am ranking things in order of how good I think they are. The quality varies a great deal. [13:04] <[bsod]> hmm, start putting the times as it gets closer to may 12 [13:05] <[bsod]> did steal this film 2 get removed as a candidate [13:05] <erixoltan> It's there on the list. I liked it. [13:05] <[bsod]> oh ya, found it [13:05] <jokeefe> nope - "If you would like to show STEAL THIS FILM II at a festival, you can do so free and gratis, and we encourage it." [13:06] <[bsod]> thats prolly one of my top picks on the list then [13:06] <K`Tetch> 12:26:25 «jokeefe» K`tetch did you end up writing a statement? <-- sorry, I ended up computerless for most of the past week. I'll try and get it done in the next 2-3 days [13:06] <[bsod]> heh, refeer madness was funny but probably not for that audience [13:07] <jokeefe> sure, K`Tetch - try putting it up at http://piratenpad.de/p/masscispastatement [13:07] <jokeefe> depends when we show refer madness [13:07] <jokeefe> we have from 3-10pm [13:07] <[bsod]> but also, all the stoners have seen it already [13:07] <erixoltan> I remember when we showed Reefer Madness at a film festival in college. You could hardly see the screen. [13:07] <jokeefe> So Steal this film II seems to be on [13:08] <jokeefe> lol, erix [13:08] <[bsod]> have you seen it yet? [13:08] <erixoltan> only through a cloud... [13:08] <[bsod]> whatever we choose we should watch to make sure [13:08] <jokeefe> agreed [13:08] <jokeefe> though I am not sure all of us need to watch it. [13:08] <jokeefe> them [13:09] <[bsod]> right, just those who are voting lol [13:09] <[bsod]> or, basically just you [13:09] <jokeefe> and you, and erix, and Splendid and anyone who wants to [13:09] <jokeefe> maybe two sets of eyes [13:09] <[bsod]> HAxan (spelling off, Danish word) [13:10] <jokeefe> just for redundency [13:10] <[bsod]> is that, the movie about burnging witches [13:10] <SplendidSpoon> I just listed all the movies I have seen that were considered public domain [13:10] <SplendidSpoon> that I enjoyed [13:10] <[bsod]> ive seen that [13:10] <SplendidSpoon> but I have no idea if they are "appropriate" or not [13:10] <SplendidSpoon> I just know I liked them. I'm a bad judge of that sort of thing [13:11] <SplendidSpoon> like...a REALLY bad judge [13:11] <jokeefe> good to know. can we finish the viewings and the schedule by next Tuesday (or even Thursday)? We need to get the word out. [13:11] <[bsod]> they could be approporate to explain how far the public domain goes [13:11] <[bsod]> are all the candidates available to watch online somewhere [13:11] <SplendidSpoon> No idea [13:12] <[bsod]> i cancelled my netflix dvd account so i could buy more beer one day [13:12] <[bsod]> didnt want to get mixed up with quickster [13:12] <jokeefe> add links to the wiki page with what you find. [13:12] <[bsod]> okie [13:12] <[bsod]> steal this film was on hulu at one point [13:13] <[bsod]> we all have US ips i take it [13:13] <jokeefe> prly [13:13] <[bsod]> bleh, its not steal this film 2 anyways http://www.hulu.com/watch/107001/steal-this-film [13:13] <jokeefe> 2 is the one we can show. not 1 [13:14] <[bsod]> they have haxan http://www.hulu.com/watch/223944/ha%CC%88xan [13:14] <jokeefe> does hulu have rules about viewing? [13:14] <[bsod]> reefer madness http://www.hulu.com/watch/63039/reefer-madness [13:15] <[bsod]> i would assume they dont allow public viewings [13:15] <erixoltan> THey don't. [13:15] <jokeefe> but the pirate bay doesn't ... [13:15] <[bsod]> but if its public domain stuff, i used to know how to rip from youtube [13:15] <passstab> are you really gonna use hulu to show film at a anti-censorship film fest? [13:15] <[bsod]> heh, oh yea, or thepiratebay [13:15] <jokeefe> the wifi there isn't the best, sadly [13:16] <passstab> some part of that dosn't seem quite right [13:16] <jokeefe> so unless anyone wants to donate a 4G to wifi router [13:16] <[bsod]> can i write about that on my blog? that thepiratebay might have some ligitimate use proving the mass pirate party with public domain films? [13:16] <jokeefe> absolutely, we have already posted one of our videos to it [13:17] <jokeefe> natch [13:17] <[bsod]> nice [13:17] <passstab> like china printing free tibet shirts [13:18] <jokeefe> rotfl [13:18] <[bsod]> hulu is actually trying to profit from public domain works, that's shady [13:18] <jokeefe> so just update piratenpad.de/p/masspiratesfilmfest with what you have seen and whether you liked it and what age you think it is appropriate for. [13:18] <passstab> not inherently [13:19] <jokeefe> streaming from hulu or netflix is old tech :-) [13:19] <passstab> there are PD micky mouse cartoons? [13:20] <passstab> wasn't the law called the micky mouse law? [13:20] <jokeefe> It would seem so - http://publicdomainmovies.info/mickey-mouse-cartoon-the-mad-doctor [13:21] <[bsod]> i never figured out how to rip from netflix tho, damn silverlight [13:21] <[bsod]> hulu is doable [13:21] <passstab> for real? [13:21] <[bsod]> also youtube rips are very easy [13:22] <jokeefe> so that is all I have for now. [13:23] <[bsod]> Anything else others want to bring up. [13:23] <thetimface> as far as the filmfest or just in general? [13:23] <passstab> how about that guy on comedy central [13:24] <jokeefe> in general [13:24] <[bsod]> louis CK ? [13:24] <passstab> yea [13:24] <passstab> thanks [13:24] <[bsod]> old news [13:24] <[bsod]> heh [13:25] <passstab> oh sorry [13:25] <[bsod]> nah, thats okay [13:25] <[bsod]> so... the masspirate party is upto 20 members world wide? [13:25] <thetimface> are we all local to mass? [13:26] <[bsod]> passstab seems to be from pennsulvania [13:26] <[bsod]> K`Tetch is from georgia or something [13:26] <K`Tetch> yse [13:27] <K`Tetch> I guess i'm the deputy head of the georgia party [13:27] <K`Tetch> here to support if I can [13:27] <[bsod]> im currently living in shrewsbury, ma next to worcester, but dont accuse me of being FROM here [13:27] <passstab> do we have like candidates? [13:27] <thetimface> haha ok [13:27] <thetimface> how many are in boston? [13:27] <[bsod]> quite a few in the area [13:28] <[bsod]> JP is running for state representative in lowell [13:28] <jokeefe> depends how you want to count. over 20 registered, 140+ on email, 200+ mass folks on twitter, 1100+ on twitter [13:28] <[bsod]> that's all i jknow about that [13:28] <jokeefe> yes he is trying to get on the ballot if folks can help [13:28] <[bsod]> we need to motivate people to register [13:28] <jokeefe> jpforhouse@gmail.com [13:28] <jokeefe> yes we do bsod [13:29] <thetimface> so email him for ways to help get him on the ballot? [13:29] == SplendidSpoon [~lpespisa@38.111.20.226] has quit [Quit: All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain] [13:29] <jokeefe> yes.
