Review

Decisions/Endorsements

Bylaw Amendment

What supporter information we provide to our endorsed candidates does not follow our policy to not share personal contact information with non-Pirate Party groups. The bylaw amendment below resolves that issue.

In Article 8.0 - Candidate Selection change:

Candidates who are nominated or endorsed shall be considered supported candidates. Supported candidates are entitled to the contact information of any Party members or supporters in their area and any other resources the Pirate Council determines the Party can provide.

to:

Candidates who are nominated or endorsed by the party shall be considered supported candidates. Nominated candidates are entitled to access to the contact information of any Party members or supporters in their area. Endorsed candidates are entitled to have the party contact party members and supporters in their area at least once a month until the election is over to notify them that the party endorsed said candidate and how they can contact and assist the campaign. Supported candidates are entitled any other resources the Pirate Council determines the Party can provide.

[9:06pm] jokeefe: Questions?
[9:06pm] Joe: I am not sure I see the difference there 8/
[9:07pm] malt95: instead of giving away data
[9:07pm] malt95: we keep it private and relay messages directly
[9:07pm] jokeefe: It limits give our members contact information to nominated candidates
[9:07pm] jokeefe: unless you choose to give it to endorsed candidates
[9:08pm] jokeefe: also, what malt95 said
[9:08pm] Joe: I agree with the concept, just think the council will to be clear whom we intend to nominate for such roles
[9:09pm] Joe: Or have a specific person for that role on the election next set of elections.
[9:09pm] Joe: Like Candidate coordinator or something
[9:09pm] jokeefe: nominees have to be party members. we can endorse non-party members
[9:10pm] Joe: Seems like another task for the person in charge of swarmwise tbh
[9:10pm] Joe: Since they already have that task at hand anyways.
[9:11pm] Joe: Just my two cents, I am not disagreeing btw. Just thinking ahead to when this could possibly be an issue.
[9:12pm] malt95: it's just a move to limit the leak of data
[9:13pm] jokeefe: as it is written now, candidates we nominate or endorse are entitled to get the contact information of any in our database in their area
[9:13pm] malt95: once it's out of our hands we've lost control over who else gets it
[9:13pm] jokeefe: that is a privacy issue.
[9:13pm] jokeefe: with this change we only give it out to nominees since they are party members
[9:14pm] Joe: Yes, I agree with the locking of the data. I think we should add in there whom would be responsible for sending out such communications to our support base.
[9:15pm] jokeefe: sorry, I messed up
[9:15pm] Joe: Such as the person in charge of swarmwise or the captain etcetera.
[9:15pm] jokeefe: from:

[9:16pm] jokeefe: cut/paste mistake
[9:17pm] Joe: Rip the inventor of Cut/paste btw. Moment of love and warm wishes
[9:18pm] Joe: I agree with these changes.
[9:19pm] jokeefe: malt95, are you ok with these changes?
[9:20pm] jokeefe: other comments for everyone attending?
[9:22pm] jokeefe: any objections to adopting this bylaws?
[9:23pm] Joe: Only to add specific admin for non-party noms but other than that no.
[9:23pm] Joe: But it could very well be a cross that bridge when we come to it deal as well.
[9:24pm] jokeefe: I think it is covered in the rest of Article 8 https://masspirates.org/wiki/Articles_of_Agreement#Article_8.0_-_Candidate_Selection
[9:24pm] jokeefe: and https://masspirates.org/wiki/Articles_of_Agreement#Article_7.0_-_Campaign_Commanders
[9:26pm] Joe: Yeah, sorry. Covered in article 7
[9:26pm] Joe: So I have no objection then.
[9:26pm] Joe: I am sorry for the delay then.
[9:27pm] jokeefe: I approve it too.
[9:27pm] jokeefe: Motion passes then
[9:27pm] jokeefe: no worries. my error didn’t help.
[9:27pm] Joe: hmmm
[9:27pm] Joe: 6.4.4 The 1st Officer shall be the Secretary of the party. She will also be a spokesperson for the party and will take over the duties when the Captain is unable to do so.
[9:28pm] Joe: Change to 6.4.4 The 1st Officer shall be the Secretary of the party. They will also be a spokesperson for the party and will take over the duties when the Captain is unable to do so.
[9:28pm] jokeefe: I think the whole text uses she for he or they
[9:29pm] Joe: Yeah, I am just noticing this when I'm so used to gender neutral terms nowa days.
[9:29pm] malt95: shit sorry, fell asleep at the keyboard
[9:29pm] malt95: yes i support these changes
[9:30pm] jokeefe: Shall we look it over for any other changes at another meeting?
[9:30pm] Joe: It's all good, do you agree with the change to the articles?
[9:30pm] malt95: i do!
[9:30pm] malt95: i'm here now
[9:30pm] jokeefe: The change to Article 8, to be clear
[9:30pm] malt95: yes, i see that, i support a broad replacement of all gendered pronouns with they
[9:30pm] Joe: I think our articles are fairly solid, it's just syntax really.
[9:31pm] malt95: totally
