[9:23pm] gregg: also [9:23pm] gregg: http://www.univsource.com/ma.htm [9:24pm] JCFiero: hi, I must have been booted.. I have a poor connection. you asked about MassGIS?..this is Jason Fiero in NJ atm [9:24pm] Igel: oh... this is it. [9:24pm] jokeefe: lgel, nces.ed.gov gets a lot more things that would be useful to know about. say if we want to have meetings in libraries. [9:25pm] jokeefe: I would only grab places that are grades 9 and above, though. [9:26pm] jokeefe: JCFiero, yes MassGIS [9:26pm] JCFiero: yea, I didn't see your question I was disconnected [9:27pm] JCFiero: I've checked it out and it seems to have the reources/data layers in question so that I can work with David to divide the State into 7 areas for us to manage [9:28pm] Igel: is there an overlay of districts ? [9:28pm] JCFiero: then we can tie that to the universities and decide what schools to target .. other than the obvious ones [9:28pm] JCFiero: \yea [9:28pm] Igel: i can make a google map overlay or use geoip... [9:29pm] JCFiero: they have data layers for everything .. [9:29pm] jokeefe: that would be great, lgel [9:29pm] jokeefe: JCFiero - 9 areas would be a good start, easily divides into 27 [9:29pm] jokeefe: can be divided into 27 [9:29pm] JCFiero: ok 9 then [9:30pm] jokeefe: thanks [9:30pm] Igel: JCFiero: can i email you so i can contrib to this [9:31pm] jokeefe: JCFiero / lgel, you know how to contact each other? [9:39pm] jokeefe: 3.7 Min materials for College Groups - what do we need to add? [9:40pm] jokeefe: no, JCFiero - they are being preemptive [9:40pm] JCFiero: ok. [9:40pm] jokeefe: SMTP sends in plain text. [9:41pm] jokeefe: though contents can be encrypted - PGP as srevilak will show us [9:43pm] Igel: some clients are lame too -- they keep your IP address/computername in the message (mozilla thunderbird)... [9:43pm] Igel: dunno... i couldnt figure a way to prevent that. [9:44pm] srevilak: Igel: first received header will contain your public IP. No way to get around that, aside from using an anonymizer [9:44pm] srevilak: Nothing any MUA can do about that [9:45pm] Igel: Shidash: the boston globe reporter was asking about getting pgp set up... so she would never reveal sources etc. [9:45pm] jokeefe: materials for College Groups - what do we need to add? we have fliers, sign up sheets - http://masspirates.org/blog/help-build-the-party/organize/ [9:45pm] Shidash: lgel: What boston globe reporter? [9:46pm] Igel: at transparency toolkit talk... she was accross from me? [9:46pm] Shidash: lgel: Do you mean the NECIR reporter? [9:46pm] Igel: ooh, way off. [9:46pm] Bluestreak: Magiie [9:46pm] Bluestreak: Mulvelhille [9:46pm] Bluestreak: Maggioe Mulvvehill [9:46pm] Bluestreak: was her name [9:46pm] Shidash: I'll help her get PGP setup. She needs more than PGP, she needs stuff for storing documents too [9:46pm] Bluestreak: Maggie Mulvehill [9:46pm] Bluestreak: Dinking only coffee... really [9:47pm] JCFiero: Scrumpy here...8) [9:47pm] Igel: yeah she did mention that... [9:48pm] Igel: hmmph. alright off topic but yeah [9:49pm] jokeefe: anyone recommend graphic designers, besides those we know about? [9:50pm] Igel: i look forward to it... i use mailx all the time.. [9:50pm] JCFiero: graphic designers for?.. [9:50pm] Bluestreak: Blue said she was happy to help [9:50pm] Bluestreak: anytime [9:50pm] Bluestreak: <3 [9:50pm] Igel: the more graphic designers the better [9:50pm] JCFiero: yea.. Gregg Grubb might lend a hand if I ask nicely [9:51pm] srevilak: jokeefe: graphic designers for flyers and such? [9:51pm] kit: At Berkman we've been thinking of doing a legal / technical resource for journalists to protect their info and sources. We have a legal referral network of attorneys willing to help out for free or reduced fees. Is there anything like that for technologists? [9:51pm] Bluestreak: jpokeefe JCFiero Doc says "Hi!" [9:51pm] kit: the referral network, I mean [9:51pm] Bluestreak: Off topic sry [9:51pm] jokeefe: agreed lgel, the more the better [9:52pm] jokeefe: yes, srevilak [9:52pm] jokeefe: good idea kit [9:52pm] srevilak: jokeefe: I may know someone. Will talk to her next week [9:52pm] mashe: I can recommend a graphic designr or two [9:52pm] jokeefe: Hi, back to Doc, Bluestreak [9:52pm] Igel: same [9:53pm] jokeefe: mashe, srevilak, please ask if they are willing to help. many hands make light work, after all [9:54pm] jokeefe: BTW: I recommend - The Non-Designer's Design Book by Robin Williams [9:55pm] jokeefe: anyone know of a media list we could start ours off of? [9:56pm] srevilak: http://wiki.occupyboston.org/wiki/List_of_National_Media_Contacts [9:56pm] JCFiero: no... started making a small alternaive media list for Bluestreak before the Cam thing but never got very far [9:57pm] jokeefe: thanks, srevilak [9:58pm] srevilak: jokeefe: they're all national, but maybe we can grow into them [9:58pm] jokeefe: Bluestreak / JCFiero - if I send you the ones I have, would you compile a list with what srevilak gave and what you have? [10:00pm] JCFiero: <jokeefe> ok assuming you have quite a good list of local MSM contacts.. [10:00pm] jokeefe: it is a start [10:01pm] passstab joined the chat room. [10:01pm] jokeefe: hi passstab [10:01pm] passstab: hi jokeefe [10:02pm] jokeefe: pass stab, you in PA right? [10:02pm] jokeefe: dang autocorrect [10:03pm] Bluestreak: OK guys... I am going to sign off, if you don't mind. Thanks for attending JCFiero I hope you can stay until the end! [10:03pm] Bluestreak: Goodnight, all. [10:03pm] Bluestreak left the chat room. (Quit: Web client closed) [10:03pm] JCFiero: nite bb [10:04pm] passstab: jokeefe, correct [10:04pm] jokeefe: do you know Mars? [10:04pm] passstab: um, hi Mars ? [10:05pm] jokeefe: Mars is also in PA [10:05pm] Kendra: nite [10:05pm] jokeefe: just making introductions [10:05pm] jokeefe: that is pretty much what I have on the agenda since we need to find people to lead up tasks [10:05pm] jokeefe: anything else folks want to bring up? [10:05pm] passstab: Mars, #papp [10:06pm] kit: did the passmassamendment discussion happen? [10:07pm] jokeefe: is Terra here? [10:07pm] jokeefe: or are you familiar with it? [10:07pm] passstab: jokeefe, thanks [10:08pm] jokeefe: yr welcome [10:08pm] kit: I am familiar with the constitutional issues at the federal level and I have concerns about the proposed amendment [10:09pm] kit: You have to be really careful about this stuff, where you're changing fundamental elements of the bill of rights [10:09pm] kit: Eventually people came up with reasonable things, like the Sanders amendment [10:09pm] jokeefe: here is the proposed amendment if folks want to read it - http://passmassamendment.wikispaces.com/The+Language [10:09pm] kit: but if you just say "money is not free speech, the legislature can regulate it without constitutional safeguards" ... you have issues [10:10pm] kit: an extreme case being a law saying you can only donate to incumbents, or to the two major parties [10:10pm] kit: you need to build in content and viewpoint neutrality [10:10pm] jokeefe: very good point [10:11pm] kit: a similar (and actually harder) issue is what happens if you say "corporations have no constitutional rights" [10:11pm] kit: It would be totally reasonable to have a regime where that's true, and corporations have rights given to them by statute only [10:12pm] kit: but at present, we rely on the constitution for some corporate rights that are actually useful, like twitter's ability to challenge a subpoena for your information [10:12pm] kit: or the ACLU's ability not to have its files searched willy-nilly [10:13pm] kit: finally, as far as I know it's been the US Supreme Court applying the federal constitution to strike down anti-corruption laws, so I don't know that amending the Mass constitution would help [10:13pm] jokeefe: yes, since it was a Federal law clerk who made corps. people to begin with [10:14pm] jokeefe: <vastly simplifying> [10:14pm] srevilak left the chat room. (Ping timeout: 258 seconds) [10:14pm] jokeefe: so basically, we need to think long and hard about this proposed amendment [10:15pm] kit: Those are the things I wanted to say. I really care a lot about the $ in politics issue, but had to stop working with some orgs that were reckless in their amendment language [10:15pm] jokeefe: thanks for the perspective, kit. [10:15pm] srevilak joined the chat room. [10:15pm] kit: yes, think carefully about the language, but I also don't yet see the case for changing the _state_ constitution [10:15pm] Mars left the chat room. (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) [10:16pm] jokeefe: but, we are past our time, and it is time to adjourn. motion to adjourn, any seconds? [10:16pm] Kendra: second [10:16pm] gregg: seconds [10:16pm] mashe: seconded [10:17pm] srevilak: aye [10:17pm] jokeefe: any objections? [10:17pm] kit: nope [10:17pm] gregg: kit: very well stated [10:17pm] gregg: interesting perspective [10:18pm] jokeefe: ok, we are done for the evening. thanks all!
