[12:51] <@erixoltan> no, but you can contact Rush (Brad Hall) for questions and with ideas for what you'd like to write. He's upset they haven't gotten enough yet.
[12:52] <@jokeefe> do they have a write up?  perhaps we can post it on the blog.
[12:53] <@erixoltan> I don't know, good question.
[12:53] <+aphelionz> I'd like to help but i need a prompt or topic or something
[12:53] <@jokeefe> what of the key planks interest you?
[12:54] <+aphelionz> ...what are the key planks? :)
[12:54] <@erixoltan> Nobody has written anything on trademark reform. There's not enough on patent reform. There are a lot of things on copyright and open government but we could use more too.
[12:54] <@erixoltan> Something on the Pirate Wheel might be nice.
[12:54] <@jokeefe> aphelionz, copyright, privacy, govt. transparency, personal privacy?
[12:55] <@jokeefe> I should look at that
[12:55] <@erixoltan> Oh yes. I think privacy is our most important issue. But I forgot to mention it.

1. Liquid Feedback Hackathon

Liquid Feedback Hackathon - Sunday, July 1st, starting at 3pm. four signed up so far.

2. What events should we be at?

Freedom Rally

3. Status of VPN testing

There is an opportunity for Massachusetts Pirate Party to offer a low-cost VPN service to our members. Some of the other state parties are interested and will pursue this option.

A VPN service can be used to protect a member's privacy. For example, you can browse certain websites and use a protocol such as BitTorrent through your VPN provider. Your computer will have an encrypted communication to the VPN server and someone trying to snoop on your connection will be unable to tell what you are doing.

This is managed by PPI (Pirate Parties International). The VPN service would allow members to pay with multiple currencies including Bitcoin, but they could also use a regular credit card. The cost is as low as $5 per month. Mass Pirate Party would receive half of the proceeds so we would have to ensure that we are complying with campaign finance laws.

Erix has been testing it.

[12:15] <@jokeefe> you don't have to, but thanks [12:15] <@jokeefe> item 2. What events should we be at? [12:16] <@jokeefe> Freedom rally is in September, and I need to organize folks for Art Beat in Somerville, maybe handing out Bradley Manning fliers [12:16] <@erixoltan> The events where we got the most participation from our own members that I remember were the conference and the parade. [12:16] <@jokeefe> right [12:16] <@erixoltan> Why were those ones successful? [12:17] <@erixoltan> Was it as much social as political? [12:18] <@jokeefe> I think that was part of it [12:18] <@jokeefe> Although I there are likely other parades we wouldn't get as many people to [12:19] <@jokeefe> here is a listing of events this year I found - http://www.bostonusa.com/images/stories/pdfs/events_2012.pdf [12:21] <@jokeefe> Info on Freedom Rally is up - http://masscann.org/masscann/freedom-rally/vendors [12:22] <@erixoltan> Next year's St Patrick's Parade looks interesting [12:23] <@erixoltan> Might be fun to do our own occupy thing - where pirates come and occupy something that violates privacy. [12:24] <@jokeefe> aye [12:24] <@erixoltan> The new PNC constitution will be sent to states to ratify I think - it might be interesting to have a ratification ceremony. [12:25] <@jokeefe> as long as there are numbers [12:25] <@jokeefe> naked walk through the airport? [12:25] <+aphelionz> haha [12:25] <@erixoltan> lmao [12:26] <@erixoltan> How about having a strategy for handing out items and literature that is designed to increase the level of response at these events? [12:27] <@erixoltan> If we're offering VPN and any other services, then it would be nice to include it in the materials we're handing out. [12:27] <@jokeefe> agreed [12:27] <@erixoltan> Along with information about how people can protect their privacy, especially of children. [12:27] <@erixoltan> Might increase our profile and traffic to our site. [12:28] <@erixoltan> I'd be willing to come up with some kind of draft. [12:28] <@jokeefe> how tos are good. main site or wiki? certainly in pamphlets [12:28] <@jokeefe> coold [12:28] <@jokeefe> coll [12:28] <@jokeefe> cool [12:28] <@erixoltan> yeah it should be in all of the above [12:28] <@jokeefe> the survey idea is a good one as well. [12:28] <@erixoltan> yeah forgot about that. [12:29] <@jokeefe> so in terms of fliers - [12:29] <@erixoltan> Also if we go to an event we should be collecting signatures for something or other. [12:29] <@jokeefe> always [12:29] <@jokeefe> 1. general trifiold [12:29] <@erixoltan> registering voters [12:30] <@jokeefe> 2. issue fliers [12:30] <@jokeefe> 3. how to fliers [12:30] <@erixoltan> and of those, we only have the trifold now? [12:32] <@jokeefe> yes, and it needs updating. Splendid did a draft, but I haven't worked with Jeanne on an update [12:32] <@erixoltan> Can you send me a copy? [12:32] <@jokeefe> will do [12:32] <@jokeefe> i think we could put issue/how to fliers up as wiki pages, then build them from those. does that work? [12:33] <@erixoltan> sure. Let me send you an email or something with some ideas and you can let me know what you think. [12:33] <@erixoltan> Then we can put something up. [12:33] <@erixoltan> Once you have text it's all graphics and page layout from there. [12:34] <@jokeefe> do you have an account at the wiki? if so just put them there [12:34] <@erixoltan> OK I will give it a shot. [12:34] <@jokeefe> thanks [12:35] <@jokeefe> shall we move on to item 3. Status of VPN testing? [12:35] <+feedbot> [Twitter] masspirates: Our Liquid Feedback Hackathon is 3 days away, Sunday, 7/1, 3pm http://t.co/5Vup5F46 - http://twitter.com/masspirates/statuses/218380778084638720 [12:36] <@erixoltan> wow [12:36] <@erixoltan> I have the info from Travis but haven't set up an account yet. I was thinking of trying it with Bitcoin and we could convert to dollars. If it doesn't provide the right info then i can provide it manually. What do you think? [12:37] <@erixoltan> If not then I'd simply use a credit card. [12:37] == Lucia [webchat@71.184.wln.il] has joined #masspirates [12:37] == mode/#masspirates [+v Lucia] by [4Q] [12:37] <+Lucia> Hi [12:37] == mode/#masspirates [+l 19] by [4Q] [12:37] <@jokeefe> hi! [12:38] <@jokeefe> bitcoin sounds good, erixoltan [12:38] <@erixoltan> OK then I'll have to get me some. Will try tonite if I can. [12:38] <+aphelionz> did you guys see that occupy/bitcoin thing? [12:39] <+aphelionz> http://www.indiegogo.com/freicoin [12:40] <@erixoltan> how is that "freicoin" different from bitcoin? [12:40] <@jokeefe> this i like: "Money is eternally losing value, so the incentive is to spend it as quickly as possible on the necessities of life or to invest in longer-term ventures that also provide stimulus for a growing economy" [12:42] <+aphelionz> its more or less an extension on the bitcoin idea [12:42] <@erixoltan> Very interesting [12:43] <@jokeefe> as long as the currency doesn't have deflation built in it is good in my mind [12:44] <@jokeefe> Item 4. National Party News & Pirate Picnic [12:44] <@jokeefe> did the national party pick a date? [12:45] <@erixoltan> You know, nobody mentioned it at all in last night's meeting. [12:45] <@erixoltan> They did cover a number of important items. [12:45] <@erixoltan> The PNC is set to expire soon and has voted itself an extension until July 12. The next meeting will be July 11 since July 4 is a holiday. [12:46] <@erixoltan> At the 7/11 meeting we'll consider the proposed constitution. That will give the PNC a permanent status. [12:46] <@jokeefe> would you post the draft constitution so we can review it? [12:46] <@erixoltan> Jamie, other members of the constitutional committee like your idea of having a 3/4 majority instead of 7/8 for core values. The rest of the constitution will be a 2/3 majority. [12:47] <@erixoltan> I will email out a link to the activists address. Anyone can participate in the committee and we are looking for more people. [12:47] <@jokeefe> thanks [12:48] <@jokeefe> glad to know I am helping out [12:48] <@erixoltan> In other business we voted to require representatives to use their real names instead of a pseudonym at the PNC. This is just when signing in. [12:48] <@erixoltan> There was a motion to place the Oklahoma Pirate Party on probationary status since they haven't participated in a long time. They could be brought back to full member status if they start showing up. But it was tabled to give them a chance to respond. [12:48] <@jokeefe> privacy for members, transparency for leaders [12:49] <@jokeefe> probably should be some rule such as if haven't attended one of the last three meetings or something [12:49] <@erixoltan> On a personal note, I'm writing an essay for No Safe Harbor 2 on a proposed copyright and patent regime that would let content producers and inventors earn more money than they are making under the current system. I will ask to post it on our site as well when it's done. [12:49] <@erixoltan> That's about all.
