[9:18pm] paper_waves: make shift? I haven't been there but I know they host events [9:19pm] jokeefe: that said, it did have different rooms [9:19pm] jokeefe: got a url? [9:19pm] jokeefe: http://makeshiftboston.org/space [9:20pm] noe: They also list United South End Settlements and Community Church: definitely our kind of place [9:20pm] jokeefe: they are open until 5 or 6pm [9:21pm] jokeefe: what is the space like, paper_waves? [9:22pm] paper_waves: well I just checked and MS is booked on 6/25 [9:22pm] paper_waves: it's the building where the lucy parsons bookshop used to be [9:22pm] BenC: the NonProfit Center has different-sized conference rooms for rent [9:22pm] paper_waves: oh wait nevermind, it's not booked, I read it wrong [9:23pm] jokeefe: found these pictures [9:23pm] noe: http://rentals.uses.org/ <--United South End Settlements, I have been to USES and they are bus/orange line accessible. [9:24pm] jokeefe: http://www.shareable.net/sites/default/files/styles/blog-header-large/public/blog/top-image/MakeShiftBostonHeader.jpg?itok=3woD5Zbl [9:24pm] jokeefe: http://www.geo.coop/sites/default/files/styles/inline/public/makeshiftbostoninside.jpg?itok=o82FSHxS [9:24pm] paper_waves: I can write an inquery to make shift about using their space and find out how much it will be [9:25pm] BenC: it does not look like there is a lot of seating there [9:25pm] noe: Nonprofit Center: http://nonprofitcenterboston.org/reserve-meeting-space <--also worth checking out, thanks BenC [9:25pm] jokeefe: thanks [9:26pm] BenC: I also know the manager there [9:26pm] jokeefe: Non-profit center has two rooms we could use: [9:26pm] jokeefe: Wayne Glynn Community Room (75 theater style, 42 seated rounds) [9:26pm] jokeefe: Videoconferencing Room (20 seat roundtable) [9:27pm] jokeefe: $575 for both, though [9:27pm] jokeefe: those are full-day [9:28pm] BenC: I think the Wayne Glynn room alone would be big enough [9:28pm] jokeefe: what is the wifi like there? [9:28pm] BenC: I'm not sure. I could check it out [9:29pm] srevilak: Wayne Glynn community room looks nice [9:29pm] Kendra: The YMCA in Chinatown has a meeting space [9:29pm] jokeefe: Thanks, BenC. Please do. [9:30pm] jokeefe: paper_waves, would you be able to check on Make Shift? [9:30pm] paper_waves: yeah and I'll ask what their capacity is [9:31pm] jokeefe: thanks! [9:31pm] noe: For the YMCA: there's a number, but the information requires calling during business hours. [9:31pm] jokeefe: United South End Settlements seems expensive unfortunately [9:31pm] noe: http://ymcaboston.org/parties-rentals [9:31pm] jokeefe: what about the South End Tech Center? [9:32pm] paper_waves: so as we're still looking for a place, do we have any speakers lined up already or know people that we want to ask to present something? [9:32pm] srevilak: jokeefe: SETC is probably too small [9:32pm] Kendra: You could check with SETC, but is seems small [9:32pm] jokeefe: we have two people who have asked about speaking, paper_waves, but we are looking for more [9:33pm] jokeefe: thanks for the SETC updates, srevilak / Kendra [9:34pm] Kendra: I forgot to mention that there is the bigger meeting room at Tent City across from Back Bay [9:35pm] BenC: I have someone local in mind who I will ask about giving a talk [9:36pm] jokeefe: cool. [9:36pm] Bluestreak: Tent City is clean and accessible. [9:36pm] Bluestreak: Easy to get to [9:37pm] Kendra: Also if we ask far enough in advance, we would probably get it, we have a good relationship. [9:37pm] jokeefe: is there a web address for tent city? not finding one [9:37pm] BenC: http://www.tech-center-enlightentcity.tv/ [9:38pm] Kendra: It is across from the Back Bay entrance where Nieman Marcus is [9:38pm] Kendra: They have a big conference room we went to something there a while back [9:39pm] srevilak: http://www.tentcityapartments.com/ don't see mention of meeting room, though [9:39pm] jokeefe: worth asking. Very close to the T at least [9:39pm] paper_waves: just checked, make shift is sliding scale 300-1000 for a day, or 30-150 per hour [9:40pm] Kendra: It is near copley station, the librry and the mall at back bay station, I'll email Susan and Mel King and ask [9:40pm] srevilak: Kendra: thx! [9:40pm] Bluestreak: Ask Jason Pramas [9:40pm] Bluestreak: Ask Suren [9:40pm] jokeefe: they have chairs, paper_waves? [9:40pm] Bluestreak: They ran the meeting we attended there. Was only an hour though. [9:41pm] jokeefe: I can email them. [9:41pm] jokeefe: Track down who to talk to . [9:42pm] Kendra: Tent City Community Room [9:42pm] jokeefe: Noe, would you have time to check on the YMCA? [9:43pm] paper_waves: I can ask. I imagine so because they have meetings there a lot [9:43pm] jokeefe: thanks [9:43pm] jokeefe: also, need to know what wifi situation is like [9:44pm] jokeefe: Looks like we have some good places to check on. Shall we aim to decide next Monday? [9:44pm] noe: good idea. this has been really productive. [9:45pm] BenC: sounds like a plan [9:46pm] Kendra: http://www.tentcityapartments.com/index.aspx 30 Dartmouth Street Boston, MA 02116 (617) 267-8195 [9:46pm] jokeefe: thanks [9:47pm] jokeefe: srevilak, how did things go in Arlington? [9:47pm] srevilak: I have good news and bad news [9:47pm] Bluestreak: Eek [9:48pm] srevilak: good news: BoS decided to comission task force to study homelessness, rather than proposing a bylaw to prohibit camping [9:48pm] srevilak: bad news: the redevelopment board wants to change the definition of "basement". [9:48pm] jokeefe: oh? [9:48pm] noe: wha? [9:48pm] srevilak: In my neighborhood, would cause a lot of 2-story houses to become 3-story houses [9:48pm] srevilak: mine included [9:49pm] noe: is this to extract money from homeowners? [9:49pm] jokeefe: underground story? [9:49pm] Kendra: Onlly $1000 a month (per room) [9:49pm] srevilak: Redevelopment board says "to comply with state" [9:49pm] jokeefe: does that mean that the basement can be rented out? [9:50pm] srevilak: jokeefe: means that we're in a zone that limits bulding height to 2.5 stories. If we become three stories, we're non-conforming buildings [9:50pm] srevilak: limits what one can do to, in terms of remodeling, adding addition [9:50pm] jokeefe: grandfathered? [9:51pm] srevilak: Not sure. Trying to get in touch with zoning board to ask [9:51pm] Bluestreak: Well it hasn’t been voted on yet, right? [9:51pm] srevilak: For example, the addition we've been planning for a year might be kaput [9:51pm] Kendra: It seems counter productive for home owners who vote [9:51pm] Bluestreak: Or is this a done deal? [9:52pm] srevilak: Yes, and counter productive to a community that will very much need prop 2.5 overrides to make ends meet over the next few years [9:52pm] noe: Is the point to evict current homeowners? [9:52pm] srevilak: Most of arlington's income comes from residental property tax [9:53pm] srevilak: if you limit development of existing properties, they become less valuable [9:53pm] jokeefe: which also lowers prop values and so taxes [9:53pm] Kendra: We have a suburb where people build huge homes on tiny lots next to tiny ranch homes, it sounds likt avoiding overbuilding [9:53pm] srevilak: Not a done deal, but redevelopment board has is as a recommended action for town meeting [9:53pm] srevilak: But we have to fight it [9:53pm] Kendra: those are big, mundane battels [9:54pm] srevilak: THere are probably 80 homes in my precinct that would be in the same boat [9:54pm] srevilak: it really sucks [9:55pm] jokeefe: sounds like a reason to flyer them [9:55pm] srevilak: Yep [9:55pm] srevilak: We have town elections on Sat. After that, time to start agitating [9:55pm] jokeefe: We are almost at time so I will do a quick 2016 Campaign update - Noe and I met with Aaron James. He is going forward with running for 27th Middlesex. Start gathering signatures this week. [9:55pm] noe: Awesome [9:55pm] Kendra: I sounds like you can get a groundswell if people see they are being restricted [9:56pm] jokeefe: ping me if you want help flyering, srevilak [9:56pm] srevilak: jokeefe: will do [9:56pm] srevilak: I want to see who gets elected to town meeting in my precinct [9:56pm] srevilak: So I can enlist them [9:56pm] noe: Nice! [9:56pm] jokeefe: aye [9:57pm] jokeefe: anything other business? [9:57pm] jokeefe: any other business? [9:57pm] Kendra: I'll email Mel and Susan at SETC tomorrow. Motion to adjourn [9:57pm] paper_waves: sounds good [9:57pm] jokeefe: thanks, Kendra [9:58pm] jokeefe: also have a Together Boston cryptoparty in May, probably the 22nd. [9:58pm] jokeefe: 2nd [9:58pm] jokeefe: all in favor of adjourning [9:58pm] jokeefe: ? [9:58pm] Kendra: aye [9:58pm] BenC: aye [9:58pm] paper_waves: yep [9:58pm] srevilak: aye [9:59pm] Kendra: nite all [9:59pm] Kendra left the chat room. (Quit: Web client closed) [9:59pm] jokeefe: thanks all [9:59pm] paper_waves: cryptoparty this wednesday in somerville, see you there! x [10:00pm] noe: night!
