CALL FOR MORATORIUM ON ARRESTS
Criminalization of sex work in the United States is a major contributing factor to the violence that sex workers face. Transgender sex workers of color make up a disproportionate number of those who are lost to violence, showing how sex worker stigma intersects with racism and transphobia, and abuses by law enforcement make up a substantial portion of this violence.
We have come together to voice our commitment towards ending this system of violence. We join with sex workers, human rights groups such as Amnesty International, and many other organizations and individuals, in calling for the full decriminalization of sex work as a gateway by which sex workers may achieve greater safety, dignity and respect. As a step towards this goal, we call upon Boston Police Commissioner William Gross to declare a moratorium on all arrests involving consensual transactions for commercial sex work.
Sex work is real work, and sex workers rights are human rights. Let us honor both, in word and in deed, here in Boston, across the country, and around the world.

[9:10pm] DesmondRavenstone: Looks like we're good on agenda [9:11pm] jokeefe: https://piratenpad.de/p/MAPPIndividualAutonomyIssueText [9:11pm] igel[m]: what is individual autonomy / democracy about on the piratepad? [9:12pm] DesmondRavenstone: Click on the link above; it's for issues section of website / party platform [9:12pm] jokeefe: I made a few changes [9:12pm] DesmondRavenstone: Look good [9:13pm] jokeefe: igel[m]? [9:15pm] jokeefe: It looks like a good start. We can always revise after it is up. [9:15pm] igel[m]: re-reading [9:15pm] DesmondRavenstone: Agreed [9:17pm] jokeefe: thoughts igel[m]? [9:17pm] igel[m]: i'm adding comments in the pad [9:19pm] igel[m]: its, related to making examples [9:19pm] jokeefe: thanks [9:20pm] igel[m]: because i could argue that democratic peace theory is supports both peace, and democracy [9:20pm] DesmondRavenstone: My thoughts: Use pink text (from me, edited by Jamie) then add issues like William added in outline form underneath [9:21pm] igel[m]: oh i see, in pink ok [9:22pm] jokeefe: So is: [9:22pm] jokeefe: Affirming Individual Autonomy [9:22pm] jokeefe: Democracy can only be sustained when individuals are able to exercise autonomy over their own lives and bodies to assure their well-being and happiness, while respecting the autonomy of other individuals. We call for more participatory political and social systems, more equitable access to resources, and less intrusion by government and corporate institutions into the lives of individuals. [9:22pm] jokeefe: sufficient for now, or do you want examples added to it igel[m]? [9:23pm] DesmondRavenstone: Why don't we post on activist list for ideas on specific issues/positions, starting with William's ideas, then revisit/edit over next 2 weeks [9:23pm] jokeefe: works for me [9:23pm] DesmondRavenstone: Another idea for discussion: basic income guarantee [9:23pm] igel[m]: coo [9:24pm] jokeefe: or job guarantee [9:24pm] jokeefe: igel[m], ok with Desmond’s suggestion? [9:25pm] igel[m]: Oh yea cool yup [9:25pm] DesmondRavenstone: We could discuss both basic income & job … reason advocated for basic income is that jobs are getting scarce with automation [9:26pm] jokeefe: ok, we’ll hold off to two weeks and discuss over email list. [9:26pm] DesmondRavenstone: Motion to accept revised pink text, get more contributions/discussion on issues/positions over next 2 weeks [9:26pm] jokeefe: Projects [9:26pm] jokeefe: 12/16 Vigil to End Violence Against Sex Workers Protest [9:27pm] DesmondRavenstone: Plans are together, just finishing list of names for early part of vigil [9:27pm] jokeefe: thank you [9:28pm] jokeefe: Drafting PR. Will have a draft by tomorrow. [9:28pm] DesmondRavenstone: Ehhhhcellent [9:28pm] jokeefe: Posted blog post and scheduled an email announcement for tomorrow morning [9:28pm] igel[m]: cough US corporations are government protected tyrannies. cough cough [9:29pm] jokeefe: not wrong [9:29pm] igel[m]: no democracy allowed! heh.. [9:29pm] jokeefe: Please review the CALL FOR MORATORIUM ON ARRESTS https://masspirates.org/wiki/December_12th,_2018_IRC_Meeting#12.2F16_Vigil_to_End_Violence_Against_Sex_Workers_Protest [9:29pm] jokeefe: sound good? [9:30pm] DesmondRavenstone: You know where I stand [9:31pm] igel[m]: same [9:31pm] jokeefe: great. looks good to me [9:32pm] DesmondRavenstone: Looks like we got consensus here [9:33pm] jokeefe: Agreed [9:33pm] jokeefe: Will see who can txt people tomorrow and Saturday. If you can, please tell me. [9:33pm] jokeefe: Thanks [9:35pm] jokeefe: Will bring tripod and video camera so we can create a pirate news segment [9:35pm] jokeefe: The tech meeting went well, but we devoted it to increasing the security of our systems [9:36pm] jokeefe: That is all I have. [9:36pm] igel[m]: are we evaluating loomio? [9:36pm] jokeefe: Only if we can host it ourselves. The service cost is too expensive. [9:37pm] jokeefe: So if there is nothing else, shall we adjourn early? [9:37pm] DesmondRavenstone: Okey-dokey [9:39pm] jokeefe: What time should we plan to show up on Sunday to setup? 6:30pm? [9:39pm] DesmondRavenstone: Sure, and I'll email you if anything else comes up. [9:40pm] jokeefe: thanks [9:40pm] DesmondRavenstone: We set? [9:40pm] jokeefe: Well have a good night! See you Sunday.
