RI Trade Event Friday
The Nat. Gov. Assoc. is convening a meeting of governors from the US, Mexico, and Canada – about trade – on July 12-15. The meeting will take place RI.
A national group is working on an action for Friday, July 14 at 2:30pm and would like our help in promoting it.
Pirate Picnic
We normally have a picnic on Georges Island in August. Suggest moving it to Boston Common and using it as an opportunity for people to learn how to map CCTV Surveillance cameras and map a lot of cameras in downtown Boston.

[9:06pm] jokeefe: lets start [9:06pm] jokeefe: ids [9:07pm] jokeefe: James O’Keefe, Somerville [9:07pm] hvxgr: Can you ssh into this shared host or is it really down. ( answer later) [9:07pm] hvxgr: Tom ROdman - Milwaukee [9:07pm] jokeefe: I can ssh in [9:09pm] jokeefe: Reviews [9:09pm] Joe: Joseph Onoroski - Lowell [9:10pm] jokeefe: Day Against DRM went well - https://twitter.com/masspirates/status/883714978280288257 [9:10pm] papegaai: Title: Mass. Pirate Party op Twitter: "#NoDRM crew on Boston Common @endDRM @fsf https://t.co/EIefUVfUHQ" (at twitter.com) [9:10pm] jokeefe: handed out a lot of flyters [9:10pm] jokeefe: flyers [9:10pm] jokeefe: talked with a number of people [9:12pm] jokeefe: distributed the remaining flyers to participants to give out elsewhere [9:13pm] jokeefe: went well [9:13pm] Joe: That is wonderful to hear! [9:13pm] hvxgr: Nice, I will look for flyer later, print, and take to meetings. [9:14pm] Joe: If we make a larger order, does it get cheaper? [9:14pm] jokeefe: yes [9:15pm] hvxgr: Green party, tries to use union printers. [9:15pm] jokeefe: The cost was less than the previous print job since this one was just text. [9:16pm] jokeefe: Last I checked they were, but haven’t checked since they got sold [9:16pm] jokeefe: thanks for the reminder hvxgr [9:16pm] jokeefe: Decisions/Endorsements [9:17pm] jokeefe: There is an RI Trade Event Friday - US/Mexico/Canada govs meeting [9:17pm] jokeefe: Public Citizen asked for help promoting it [9:18pm] jokeefe: There is a call to revise NAFTA [9:19pm] jokeefe: We have helped with the effort on fighting TPP, and likely this rewrite would promote more ISDS - investor state dispute settlement procedures that counter local laws [9:21pm] jokeefe: we can help get the word out. checking in if that works for folks [9:21pm] hvxgr: I need to get up to speed on NAFTA - one pretty articulate character in MKE GP is fairly pro NAFTA, I am anti-NAFTA, but I need to study a bit. [9:22pm] Joe: NAFTA was a bad deal for us. I'm with you on the anti-NAFTA [9:22pm] Joe: But we still need to support our local laws. [9:25pm] hvxgr: TPP and related programs were anti-soverignty, had secret tribunals etc; obviously bad. Fracking is a WI issue, where local laws might help. CELDF (in PA) works to support local laws. [9:25pm] jokeefe: NAFTA started such secret tribunals [9:26pm] hvxgr: interesting [9:27pm] jokeefe: any objections to telling our supporters about it? [9:28pm] Joe: Absolutely not. Lets us inform as many as possible. It is a great point let people what we are about. [9:29pm] jokeefe: cool [9:29pm] jokeefe: will email once site is back up [9:29pm] razz joined the chat room. [9:29pm] jokeefe: ahoy razz [9:30pm] Joe: Ahoy [9:32pm] jokeefe: Pirate Picnic - normally we have a picnic in August on Georges island [9:33pm] jokeefe: suggesting we change it to Boston Common and use it as an opportunity to map surveillance camera in downtown Boston [9:33pm] jokeefe: got good reception at the DRM protest among participants [9:33pm] jokeefe: thoughts? [9:34pm] Joe: The commons would be a good place to reach out. What date were you looking at? [9:35pm] jokeefe: one day in the first three weekends in August [9:35pm] jokeefe: Maybe 12th or 13th [9:36pm] Joe: I also know of a for profit company right here in Lowell that we could protest if you like. It would be good for getting the word out as well. Esp. if we can get news coverage. [9:36pm] Joe: But any surveillance company would work. [9:36pm] jokeefe: what does the company do? [9:37pm] Joe: viewpointmonitoring.com [9:38pm] Joe: The wait private residence for property management and utility companies [9:38pm] Joe: They monitor* [9:39pm] jokeefe: Yes, they are very clear about that [9:39pm] jokeefe: 24/7/365 availability [9:39pm] jokeefe: something to consider [9:40pm] jokeefe: what do you all think of the idea? [9:40pm] Joe: Yup, watch and oppress. But the thing is there are dozens of companies like them. [9:40pm] jokeefe: true [9:41pm] jokeefe: picnic and mapping? already mapped the cameras on georges island [9:41pm] Joe: If we do something like that though, we could prob. get some news coverage if we swing it right. [9:41pm] Joe: Sounds good to me. [9:41pm] jokeefe: hopefully get people to know how to do it and then do it more in their own communities [9:41pm] jokeefe: yes, most definitely [9:43pm] hvxgr: Which map tool get's the coordinates of cameras? I'm impressed by this work/thanks. [9:44pm] jokeefe: we use open street map [9:44pm] jokeefe: check out http://cctv.masspirates.org/ [9:44pm] papegaai: Title: The CCTV map (extracted from OpenStreetMap) (at cctv.masspirates.org) [9:44pm] hvxgr: Great. [9:45pm] Joe: Can we share that on our Twitter account? [9:45pm] jokeefe: Much remains to be done of Boston https://cctv.masspirates.org/?lat=42.3601&lon=-71.0589&zoom=15 [9:45pm] papegaai: Title: The CCTV map (extracted from OpenStreetMap) (at cctv.masspirates.org) [9:45pm] jokeefe: sure [9:46pm] jokeefe: please share it [9:47pm] jokeefe: Will email about date, then [9:47pm] Joe: I sent it, I think. [9:47pm] jokeefe: thanks [9:48pm] jokeefe: tomorrow is INTERNET-WIDE DAY OF ACTION TO SAVE NET NEUTRALITY - https://www.battleforthenet.com/july12/ [9:48pm] jokeefe: in case you didn’t know [9:49pm] jokeefe: that is all I have [9:49pm] jokeefe: Joe, what questions did you have about national? [9:51pm] Joe: Before that, I just tweeted that to a few people whom may help and Linsey Lohan for the lols [9:52pm] jokeefe: lol [9:52pm] Joe: who knows, maybe Ms. Lohan will help. [9:53pm] Joe: As the back-up rep, I am a little confused about the national meetings. I know there is one coming up soon, could you connect with me via phone or email with the details? [9:53pm] jokeefe: sure [9:54pm] Joe: I figure it's something to be a fly on the wall for the time being. [9:54pm] jokeefe: when is good tomorroe? [9:54pm] jokeefe: w? [9:54pm] Joe: lolz [9:54pm] Joe: Sure, anytime after 7 works for me. [9:55pm] jokeefe: sounds good [9:55pm] jokeefe: will call after dinner [9:55pm] Joe: Great, I really appreciate it sir. [9:55pm] jokeefe: hvxgr, anything you want to share? [9:55pm] jokeefe: my pleasure, Joe [9:57pm] hvxgr: No, thanks though. You got me thinking about the cameras. There was an initial reaction against them here many years back, and now nothing. [9:58pm] jokeefe: yeah. There are some good efforts to at least get city council oversight in a few cities/counties [9:58pm] jokeefe: here/ CA [9:58pm] jokeefe: showing how pervasive they are would help [9:58pm] hvxgr: Our anti war/anti trump events contine though with some good energy. [9:59pm] jokeefe: we need more anti-war events, certainly [9:59pm] hvxgr: I need to train my eye and start seeing them. [9:59pm] jokeefe: email me what phone you have and I will suggest a good app [10:00pm] Joe: May I interject a point? [10:00pm] jokeefe: once you start mapping them, never can stop seeing them [10:00pm] jokeefe: sure, Joe [10:01pm] Joe: Even though I do not support Trump, there are many out there that do. With so few people who know who we are and what we represent, I recommend caution in saying we are for or against anyone specific. [10:02pm] Joe: But that is my opinion and I support your rights to do and say as you please. [10:03pm] jokeefe: I prefer rallies that are anti-Trump policies than anti-Trump [10:03pm] Joe: Agreed, fight ideas not people. [10:03pm] hvxgr: I agree w/both of you. [10:04pm] jokeefe: yes, there are a lot of people who voted for Trump because they are fed up. No one is deplorable [10:04pm] Joe: Well, I may be, but that's a story for another time. >8-) [10:05pm] jokeefe: Anyway, thanks for that good point, Joe. [10:05pm] jokeefe: shall we adjourn? [10:05pm] Joe: I second [10:05pm] jokeefe: all in favor? [10:05pm] jokeefe: aye [10:05pm] Joe: Aye [10:06pm] jokeefe: have a good night!
