[4:22pm] SplendidSpoon: Still sad to think of him alone in jail withdrawing from suboxone [4:22pm] mildbeard: wow that is some heavy shit. [4:22pm] mildbeard: makes you think. [4:22pm] SplendidSpoon: I wish they would give him some but I know they don't do that [4:23pm] SplendidSpoon: To me it seems like torture to deny someone their prescriptions, even for opiate maintenance therapy, ESPECIALLY for that. [4:23pm] jokeefe: yes [4:23pm] zappho joined the chat room. [4:23pm] zappho was granted voice by [4Q]. [4:31pm] jokeefe: Item 2. CryptoParty in Boston & elsewhere [4:31pm] jokeefe: Moving along, still need a place and more teachers. [4:32pm] jokeefe: If anyone wants to work on finding teachers, that is fine with me. [4:34pm] jokeefe: At this pace we are looking at sometime in Oct. [4:35pm] jokeefe: Item 3. (Quit: Web client closed) [4:40pm] jokeefe: Gregory Engels from PPDE/PPI will be visiting the Boston area on work, so we are planning an event with him. [4:42pm] jokeefe: Item 4. Liquid Feedback [4:42pm] jokeefe: Anyone have an update on it? mildbeard? [4:42pm] mildbeard: Well, we have had initial success with it, and I would propose that we are ready to really start using it. [4:43pm] mildbeard: The only problem I've seen with it is that nobody is using it, possibly because we've been saying it's alpha and still under testing. [4:43pm] mildbeard: Unless anyone disagrees? [4:44pm] jokeefe: probably need more videos for how to use it? [4:45pm] mildbeard: Yeah, probably. I think we need to have something that really shows what it does, and for that we would need to set something up and we can all commit to working together, and I can pull together a video that shows maybe several days worth of using it and how the issue would evolve over time. [4:47pm] jokeefe: agreed. any other software that we need? [4:47pm] jokeefe: 4 it? [4:48pm] mildbeard: Can't see why we would. [4:49pm] mildbeard: as long as you don't mind open source [4:49pm] jokeefe: not at all, was thinking more of the wiki that they use with it. [4:50pm] mildbeard: ah, don't know about it myself. [4:52pm] jokeefe: k, so lets pick a bill and run it through its paces [4:53pm] jokeefe: see if we can get it done by next week [4:54pm] jokeefe: SplendidSpoon, have you thought any more about running to be our a new treasurer ? [4:54pm] SplendidSpoon: When would I need to decide by? [4:54pm] SplendidSpoon: I've been super swamped with work and stuff lately. [4:55pm] SplendidSpoon: and I'll be in Vegas next week from Thursday to Sunday [4:56pm] jokeefe: well, we have no other contenders yet [4:56pm] jokeefe: have a nice vaca [4:57pm] mildbeard: I think we shouldn't make her the treasurer until AFTER she returns from Vegas. [4:57pm] mildbeard: Just a thought. [4:57pm] SplendidSpoon: lol [4:58pm] jokeefe: aye! [4:58pm] jokeefe: no further progress on items 6 & 7, so skipping to 8. Platform [4:59pm] mildbeard: What do we mean by platform? [4:59pm] jokeefe: we talked about setting up video chats for each platform item, then using LQFB to refine. [4:59pm] mildbeard: aah [4:59pm] jokeefe: I think we should focus on local issues since those are the campaigns in 2013. [5:00pm] jokeefe: school, police, public services, free wifi, etc. [5:01pm] SplendidSpoon: +1 [5:01pm] SplendidSpoon: Local! [5:01pm] mildbeard: I think the list of core values in the USPP constitution is one thing to look at, when we're trying to tackle a local issue and we're not sure what the pirate position might be. [5:03pm] mildbeard: http://www.pirate-party.us/wiki/Pirate_National_Committee_%28PNC%29/Constitution#Section_3:_Core_Values [5:04pm] jokeefe: a start [5:05pm] jokeefe: so when to start? [5:07pm] mildbeard: Gee, we should announce liquid feedback and try to get people roped into working on the issues. [5:07pm] feedbot: [Twitter] masspirates: #TPP is under negotiation this week and it's the worst thing since #ACTA & #SOPA. This @eff infographic shows you why: http://t.co/pZ0FoBYA - http://twitter.com/masspirates/statuses/246293645857271808 [5:07pm] mildbeard: And we should get a list of specific issues to work on. [5:09pm] SplendidSpoon: Well what about our position on the ballot issues this year? [5:12pm] mildbeard: Yeah like medical marijuana. I bet we could find people willing to help us out on that one this weekend... [5:14pm] teamcoltra left the chat room. (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) [5:15pm] jokeefe: the most pressing issues are the ballot questions, so lets start with those. [5:16pm] teamcoltra joined the chat room. [5:16pm] teamcoltra was granted voice by [4Q]. [5:16pm] [4Q] set a limit on the number of room members to 19. [5:16pm] jokeefe: so video chat then LQFB or just LQFB? [5:17pm] mildbeard: Tell me what would be in the video chat, what is your thinking? [5:18pm] jokeefe: see http://masspirates.org/wiki/index.php?title=August_2nd,_2012_IRC_Meeting [5:18pm] jokeefe: starting at 4:57pm [5:19pm] mildbeard: aah - well since I now see who came up with the idea, I must say it's BRILLIANT..... [5:19pm] jokeefe: [5:20pm] mildbeard: I think it would be a good complement to a debate on LQFB but not necessarily has to go first. We could do it first or after we've posted the issues and asked for feedback. Either way. [5:22pm] jokeefe: ok, then lets do LQFB first and see how it goes. [5:22pm] mildbeard: awesome [5:22pm] jokeefe: that's all I have. [5:22pm] jokeefe: any national issues? [5:23pm] SplendidSpoon: Ugh, you heard about the Falkvinge stuff right, and what the German PP did? [5:23pm] mildbeard: no? [5:23pm] SplendidSpoon: It's on falkvinge.net [5:23pm] SplendidSpoon: the last 2 blog posts [5:24pm] SplendidSpoon: German Party got freaked out and thought Falkvinge was committing political suicide and jumped the gun and made public statement denouncing his posts about cp [5:24pm] jokeefe: Read both of Falkvinge's posts, and started to read translated versions of the German PP posts. [5:24pm] mildbeard: ah yeah. I did see his post. [5:24pm] SplendidSpoon: I got freaked out too tbh, though I agreed with the posts [5:24pm] SplendidSpoon: but I didn't think we should do anything publicly about it, which we didn't [5:24pm] SplendidSpoon: but they did.... [5:25pm] jokeefe: sigh. [5:25pm] SplendidSpoon: Made them look like chickens [5:25pm] SplendidSpoon: I guess they have more to lose... [5:26pm] SplendidSpoon: but part of Pirate Party platform is to be courageous and not back down from issues due to politics [5:26pm] SplendidSpoon: so ick [5:26pm] jokeefe: yes [5:27pm] jokeefe: The point is still valid that we should go after anyone who abuses children and not criminalize youth exploration. [5:27pm] SplendidSpoon: Right [5:28pm] jokeefe: Would ask, what are our objectives and what is the most effective law to accomplish those objectives. [5:28pm] jokeefe: ? [5:28pm] mildbeard: you mean only on the ballot questions? [5:29pm] jokeefe: was thinking about the issues that Falkvinge brought up, but it applies to all laws [5:29pm] mildbeard: I think payright is the number 1 thing we should do. [5:30pm] jokeefe: Falkvinge certainly set himself in opposition to social conservatives. [5:30pm] teamcoltra: His positions are not political suicide, we just need to overcome the initial "ew" reaction, and show that the pirate plan actually protects children, instead of putting a bandaid on the problem of child abuse [5:30pm] SplendidSpoon: That's fine, social conservatism is not rational [5:31pm] jokeefe: agreed, on both. [5:31pm] SplendidSpoon: Sane, rational data-driven policy. [5:31pm] SplendidSpoon: Is a good thing. [5:31pm] teamcoltra: SplendidSpoon and yet so many people are afraid of it [5:31pm] SplendidSpoon: reactionary policy is not [5:32pm] mildbeard: any publicity is good publicity. [5:32pm] jokeefe: as long as spell our url right? [5:32pm] teamcoltra: +1 mildbeard [5:33pm] teamcoltra: Right now the danger isn't us being painted in the media as some radical group... our issue is not getting painted at all [5:33pm] mildbeard: yep [5:34pm] teamcoltra: and lets not forget what Falkvinge said, is the exact same thing (though using less shocking langauge) that I said on Al Jazeera [5:34pm] jokeefe: true, but we don't want to get painted as supporting pedophiles either. [5:37pm] teamcoltra: That's where we put the political spin on the issue when we are asked about it: We find pedophilla to be abhorant, but we want to actually end the abuse against children and not closet the problem to make people feel better. The Pirate Party is the only party who is actually promoting a method to end the abuse on children instead of wasting money and resources on going after the wrong people. [5:38pm] teamcoltra: By ending the abuse of children, we by extension make it unavailable for the people who seek it out and/or stumble upon it. [5:40pm] mildbeard: I don't have a problem with what Falkvinge said. I'm not sure, however, that it is a question I would choose to focus on when there are better ones available. [5:42pm] teamcoltra: mildbeard now that is a good point. Recently a New York judge made a great call on having child porn downloaded on your computer, and basically ruled in understanding of technology and stuff and said just because he downloaded (or had the files in Cache) does not mean that the person viewed the content nor had a desire to view the abusive of children (btw, don't use child porn, it will always make it sound like we are supporting it when we use [5:42pm] teamcoltra: the words child porn) [5:42pm] teamcoltra: I was considering making a statement on it [5:43pm] teamcoltra: but I decided that while the judge made a good call, it was not worth commenting on either. [5:43pm] mildbeard: I wonder what he would have said if it was copyrighted material instead. [5:45pm] mildbeard: Anyway, I think legalization is one of our top local issues in Mass. [5:45pm] mildbeard: Personally I will focus on payright. [5:46pm] teamcolt_ joined the chat room. [5:46pm] teamcolt_ was granted voice by [4Q]. [5:47pm] jokeefe: I think we are on a useful track, but not the one for this meeting. motion to adjourn? [5:47pm] [4Q] set a limit on the number of room members to 20. [5:47pm] mildbeard: move to adjourn. [5:47pm] teamcoltra left the chat room. (Read error: Connection reset by peer) [5:47pm] jokeefe: 2nd [5:47pm] mildbeard: aye [5:47pm] jokeefe: all in favor? [5:47pm] jokeefe: aye [5:49pm] mildbeard: OK adios, see you this weekend! [5:50pm] jokeefe: sounds great!
