Forensic Snake Oil: Shotspotter Is Untrustworthy and Dangerous

March 29 @ 12:15 pm - 2:00 pm

Join for a startling look at a surveillance system already in use in Cambridge and financed by money from the Department of Homeland Security. Shotspotter is an acoustic surveillance technology that the City of Cambridge has deployed to detect gunshots. While this may sound beneficial on the surface, there are serious concerns about how this technology impacts our community—particularly communities of color.

This event is hosted by First Parish Church in Cambridge, The Black Response and the Stop ShotSpotter Coalition. The speaker is Spencer Piston, Associate Professor of Political Science at Boston University.

The First Parish Church is at 3 Church Street, Cambridge. It is in Harvard Square and a minute walk from MBTA Harvard Square Red Line.
