Keep the legislature from harming voter-approved Cannabis legalization

Thankfully, the Massachusetts Senate hasn’t yet buckled to the House’s repeal and rewrite of Question 4 legalizing Cannabis and the legislature is still settling on a single bill.

The differences between the House bill and Question 4 include:

  • sharply raise total pot taxes to a mandatory 28 percent, from a maximum of 12 percent in the ballot question;
  • give municipal officials, instead of local voters, the power to ban cannabis shops and farms from their communities.

MassCANN/NORML is urging voters to support the Senate Bill.

The legislature is back in session Wednesday. Please find your House and Senate legislators’ contact info and give them a call to urge them to pressure the conference committee to adopt the Senate’s Bill, or better, leave the text of Question 4 alone.  Here is how the House voted:
