We are now faced with yet another SARS-COV-2 variant that may be more harmful than the prevalent Delta variant. The Omicron variant evolved because Western pharmaceutical companies used patent laws to prevent developing countries from manufacturing their own copies of the effective vaccines we have in the United States and Europe.
US and European governments, which provided billions in funding for all of the vaccines, allowed this to happen because of their fealty to corporate power and intellectual privilege laws. As a result, less than 5% of people in developing countries have been vaccinated. A world without COVID is not possible until everyone can access vaccines.
Greater Boston Trade Justice is organizing a rally and vigil this Thursday, December 2 to demand global access to COVID 19 vaccines. The rally will be at 500 Technology Square, Kendall Square, Cambridge and starts at 4:00 P.M. It will be near the Area 4 restaurant and the intersection of Albany and Main Streets.
Moderna CEO Steve Bancel & Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla will receive awards from the Edward M. Kennedy Institute virtually this Thursday. Come out and join medical and essential workers as well as global justice advocates in demanding that they earn their awards by ending the global pharmaceutical monopoly and ending the pandemic!
