Cryptoparty Main Topic Privacy

Digital Security 101 Workshop, 11/30, Somerville

kids4thAmendmentThe monthly Somerville Cryptoparty this November will offer a Digital Security 101 workshop that will focus on getting new folks up to speed on protecting their privacy on-line.

It will be on Wednesday, November 30th at The Sprouts, 339R Summer Street, Somerville. We will start at 6pm and end at 9pm. It is free.  Kids are welcome to join.

Please bring your phone, tablet and/or laptop so we can help you get software installed and setup.  To prepare in advance,you can check out the EFF’s Surveillance Self-Defense Guide: https://ssd.eff.org. Topics will include:

  • Threat identification
  • Choosing good passwords and using password managers (+ two-factor authentication)
  • Disk encryption for your devices
  • Using https and installing HTTPS Everywhere
  • Using Tor
  • Using secure Skype/phone/text replacements
  • Smart phone security
