Continue the struggle for Net Neutrality: Build a community ISP!

The FCC has changed the rules to end net neutrality. The fight continues in Congress and the courts. Thankfully the Massachusetts delegation supports net neutrality and there are state and national groups bringing court challenges. You can even get an app to see whether your internet connection is being throttled or censored.

Most people have few if any choices for their ISP and they seldom can choose an ISP which is pro-net neutrality. Additionally, because of the lack of competition, ISPs are way too expensive compared to many other advanced economy countries. We can change that!

Community mesh networks such as NYC Mesh, Guifi.net in Spain and Freifunk in Germany have already shown it can be done. Two upcoming meetings will discuss how we can move forward with developing a community mesh network in the Boston area:

  • 1/31, 6-9pm, Somerville Cryptoparty, The Sprouts, 339R Summer Street, Somerville
  • 2/10, 1-4pm, Community Meshnet Workshop, Somerville Public Library, 79 Highland Ave, Somerville

The Somerville Cryptoparty folks put together a flyer for the February workshop that we hope you will put up in your neighborhood. You can also share the Somerville Cryptoparty page or the February Facebook event.

Hope you can make it and please spread the word about these events.
