Reproductive Freedom Remains a Human Right!

The Supreme Court voted 6-3 to allow states to ban abortion. This ruling is ahistorical bullshit from start to finish that lays waste to women’s right to privacy and personal autonomy. This ruling does not respect the 61% of the US that believes that abortion should be legal in all or most cases. That six justices can overrule views of the majority of people who believe in an individual right to privacy and personal autonomy cannot be allowed to stand.

We reiterate our belief (below) that every individual has a right to personal and personal autonomy including reproduction and sexual health.

Those who oppose women’s right to choose whether to end their pregnancy will not stop there. Their plan is to end gay marriage, end the legal sale of contraceptives, end a person’s right to change gender and potentially end interracial marriages. It isn’t hard to see how this ruling will be used to go after our fundamental right to privacy.

We call on all Pirates to resist this attack on personal autonomy and privacy using their voices and other tools at their disposal. One small step is to join us at the Trans Resistance March tomorrow. The struggle for personal autonomy has long been under threat, but we will win in the end since our cause is just and righteous.

Reproductive Freedom is a Human Right

People with children are more dependent upon family and community for support. By obligating pregnant individuals to carry their pregnancy to term, they intend to limit the economic and social independence of half the population.

Six years passed between Roe v. Wade and the right declaring their anti-abortion sentiment. The right is institutionally dishonest about their intentions regarding Roe v. Wade. They don’t care about protecting life at all. If they cared about life, then they would fight to ensure that all children have the family support they need to grow up into healthy, well educated citizens. Instead, they seek to re-establish a segregated society.

Defending Roe v. Wade is about more than just abortion, it’s about defending modern egalitarian society as a whole. The Pirate Party endorses every individual’s right to medical autonomy, and this includes reproduction and sexual health as well.
