Surveillance Treasure Hunts This Week

Image is released into the public domain

As part of the national party’s Pirate Week, we have two surveillance treasure hunts this week:

  • Today, Monday, 9/16, 5:30pm to 7:00pm (sunset)
Hunt for ShotSpotters in Assembly Square/10 Hills, Somerville
Meet at the Lego giraffe in front of the Lego Discovery Center, 598 Assembly Row, Somerville, MA 02145
  • This Sunday, 9/22, noon to 2pm
Hunt for surveillance cameras in Central Square, Cambridge
Meet at the plaza in front of the Cambridge Savings Bank. It is at 630 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA 02139

Somerville is considering discontinuing use of ShotSpotters. Knowing where they are will help to show how intrusive they are.

Cambridge recently decided to start a surveillance camera pilot in Central Square against our opposition. We need to map the locations of any existing cameras so we know which ones are new after they deploy them.

We posted instructions for how to use several camera mapping apps on your phone so you can get ready. Check out what we have mapped so far at cctv.masspirates.org!
