The next Mass. Mesh Net weekly tech meetup is tonight, 7-9pm. It will be at Industry Lab, 288 Norfolk St, Cambridge. You can find them at https://massmesh.org/ including instructions for how to setup a mesh router. They have four different off the shelf types you can purchase and setup at their wiki.

 

HR 6729, which would allow warrantless searches of our bank accounts, has not advanced from the Senate's Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs committee. Senator Warren is on that committee. We started a petition to urge Senators Warren and Markey to put a hold on HR 6729. The more people who sign it, the greater effect it will have on Senators Warren and Markey. Please sign it and tell others about it. Thanks!

Now that the Massachusetts Senate has finished its omnibus criminal justice reform package, the Massachusetts House is working on its version (H. 4011). While we convinced the Senate to oppose the wiretap amendments, 22 to 14, now the House will have a go.  Three amendments (#53, #115 and #174) would give prosecutors unprecedented new powers to wiretap phone calls, emails, instant messaging services, and other electronic devices.
