In the latest Pirate News, we discussed the EU vote to impose an upload filter and link tax. We also discuss Saturday's Party Conference.

Sunday EU Pirates and other EU residents demonstrated for the #SaveYourInternet campaign opposing the European Parliament's upcoming vote to impose copyright upload filters and a link tax. Monday Trump announced a new NAFTA treaty that would establish a notice-and-takedown system for copyright safe harbors for Internet service providers (ISPs). Unfortunately, we don't know the details yet, but it looks like the US needs its own #SaveYourInternet campaign. What we do know is that update filter...

Recently, the US House approved the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act. The Senate's cloture vote passed overwhelmingly Monday with only Wyden and Paul voting against it. Like SESTA, FOSTA would censor any site that allows user supported content without actually hindering sex trafficking. The Senate will resume consideration of FOSTA at 11am Wednesday, the 21st. Now would be a good time to call Senator Warren at (202) 224-4543 and Senator Markey at (202) 224-2742 and tell them how this bill ...

Congratulations to the Kilton Public Library for voting to restart their Tor node! The Lebanon, New Hampshire library started a Tor node in July as a pilot project by the Library Freedom Project to bring Tor nodes to public libraries. Recently they took down the Tor exit node after a visit by local police notified by the Department of Homeland Security. We are proud of them for sending a clear message to DHS that they will not tolerate censorship.  A big thanks also to the Library Freedom ...

Original article at Huffington Post Tech Huffington Post Tech It turns out being the only imprisoned journalist in the United States doesn't get you on CNN or MSNBC. If you're Barrett Brown, a firebrand with an outlandish style, a penchant for insulting those very outlets and a history of working with hacktivist collectives, you can consider yourself lucky to get written up in Rolling Stone and the New York Times. The drama of Brown's case and cancelled trial is all but over, but the media...

We need information about governments, companies, and other institutions to uncover corruption, human rights abuses, and other problems. Unfortunately, the information provided by most transparency initiatives today (WikiLeaks, Project PM) is difficult to understand and/or incomplete. Transparency Toolkit (TT) is an open source web application that helps organizations and individuals collaboratively collect, analyze, and release actionable public interest information. The goal is to make it a...
